A Place Of Wonder – 100 Word Microfiction Short Story

I entered a short story competition that required me to write a 1000 word short story in 48 hours. The story needed to meet three things, a genre (A Ghost Story), a location (An Igloo) and an object (A Coffee Mug). It took me a while to find the right idea and to get it to work in a way I was happy with. But like the last time I entered something similar, I enjoyed the desire to find the story that sparked the right way for me. So, for the sake of creativity, here is 1 of the 24 rejected stories in a 100 word format..

A Place Of Wonder

 

Saran sits staring at the blood as it hits the ice with an almost magical dance, crystalizing, and falling in on itself.

“Fascinating, isn’t it?” he says as he crouches down besides her, and smiles softly.

“W-W-W-Why?”

“The room was created with a purpose, and its positioning was part of it. The same point every night is recreated, when the moon is at its highest arch, and once, every few years the eclipse that takes place, does wonderful things.”

She blinks several times. “I-I-I-I, I didn’t mean that, I meant that?” she says as she points uneasily across the room.
