I entered a short story competition that required me to write a 100 word short story in 24 hours. The story needed to meet three things, a genre (Sci-Fi), an event (Seeing a rainbow) and to use a certain word (Micro). It took me a while to find the right idea and to get it to work in a way I was happy with. But like the last time I entered something similar, I enjoyed the desire to find the story that sparked the right way for me. So, for the sake of creativity, here is 1 of the 24 rejected stories in a 100 word format..

Naught For One
“We have a purpose Commander, and in that we have hope. Do you fear hope?” she asks with a purr.
“The only thing I fear is that I’ll die before you and won’t get to enjoy watching the life slip from your pathetic eyes!” Selena snarls through blood engorged lips.
She smiles wryly and wiggles her nose like an early sixty’s genie. “You say such sweet things honey, but we’re not riding the gravy train into that moistness inside each others micro hole, we’re chasing rainbows and unicorns. So you either get up and regroup or lie here and die.
