A Me Before the Mirrored Sea – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

A Me Before the Mirrored Sea

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

A mirror image by the sea,
nothing left but emptiness to see.
A wave, a cry, a screaming man,
defying death the best he can.

I wail into the world anew,
with dying words still clinging through.
I wanted to but couldn’t be,
pathetic never suited me.

I gave the brave and spilt the blood,
I peeled the skin and fed the flood.
Flesh and memory freed the bone,
yet still beneath was never shown.

Not deep enough to set me free—
but wide enough to surrender me.

Tell me—before it forgets your name.
