    To Think Silly So

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Silly to think the dark was mine to know,
yet something unknown stirred beneath its glow.
Those moments lost outlast the sunlit sway,
their shadows stretching further day to day.

I grieved a loss that never came from me,
    watched fragile theories burn unwillingly.
Fortitude’s fickle edge refused its plea,
ending in ash not shaped by my decree.

Smile for the camera’s unblinking eye,
film wrapped in circuits where cracked futures lie.
If tomorrow were today passing by,
    yesterday’s ghost would finally clarify.

A View Given to Something Sold

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

The road to redemption is never cast in gold,
the rocks are hard, unfeeling, cracked and cold.
I spoke of songs once sung in times of old,
lost in the past no trembling hands could hold.

Lies in the eyes of many still remain,
fractured fairytales that never cross the grain.
My works deceive me, echoing my pain,
scars under flesh where silent truths refrain.

A painted smile wraps gifts that bleed anew,
place me beneath the tree for death to view.
A figment carved in stone that once was true,
pray that my stories never come for you.

A Call Into My Own Arms – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

A Call Into My Own Arms

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Time is never linear within the mind,
it sways back, forth, refusing to align.
One last breath gives direction to the few,
each one a mystery, each one of you.

    Time folds in on itself,
    dragging my shadow home.

We go forward, then stumble in retreat,
I’m not lost, not failing in defeat.
A match once scorched the earth beneath my feet,
a scalpel splintered, blind to what it’d meet.

    Ash rises when I breathe,
    cutting what memory hides.

The image that I saw was never true,
not the corpse decaying in my view.
A smile broke free, reality’s debris—
sadness, a gift the sea returned to me.

    Waves whisper my name back,
    drowning me into myself.

Explode, Explode, Explode – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Explode, Explode, Explode

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Exploded thoughts that shake the failing mind,
safety not counted in the world’s design.
Words lose their meaning by the load they show,
fractured visions rise where cigarettes glow.

    Whiskey blesses every fading breath,
living each day in the slow drift toward death.
Nothing gained and nothing left to cost,
grey eyes sinking deeper into loss.

Rings round the iris where the children dance,
captivity closing in with no more chance.
Close your deaf eyes, cover your blind ears,
explode, explode, explode through all your fears.

Through the Eyes of Tired Souls – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Through the Eyes of Tired Souls

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Darling is limited, the stain not complete,
time loops on itself in a twisted repeat.
Woven through backward, forward, left and right,
a pattern drowning in its fading light.

Whimsical whimpers buried in a smile,
yet tired eyes betray the truth awhile.
We search insignificance trying to find
the shrouded echoes buried in our mind.

Eyes in the end last longer when they close,
grieving pistons swell in purple throes.
Engulfed in growth yet never quite enough,
the body mutters as the world turns rough.

A Pleb of Broken Skin – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    A Pleb of Broken Skin

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

I broke the stream that once defined my life,
the eyes that scanned me couldn’t name my strife.
Another picture hung for all to see,
a wall of bodies framing who I used to be.

    Images twisting into something grotesque,
paintings bearing forms but not my text.
“Help me, see me, let me learn to be,”
yet don’t come close—you’ll never truly see.

I am disease, a ruin carved in skin,
a dying pulse that claws to keep me in.
Show me the vein, let needles set you free—
explode the truth of who you were to be.

Let the Deciding Be – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Let the Deciding Be

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

A wish that strayed too far into the dark,
where sickness fed and wild dogs left their mark.
Breaths foul and stinking of the rot and dead,
eyes swollen wide, mouths gaping, garbage fed.

Forgive me now — I see the things I said,
roses, gardens, grounds dug deep in mud and red.
We are the things we dread and fear to see,
we haunt, we hunt, we swallow endlessly.

Another mirror staring back at me,
an empty shape where soul and light should be.
A hollow face, no pulse, no spark to free —
I fade, I fracture, cease what once was me.

Masks That Stole the Shadow of Reflection – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Masks That Stole the Shadow of Reflection

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

A glimpse inside the breaking of my mind,
A mirror showing truths I wish were blind.
I wished for something never meant to be,
Yet in the core it stayed reality.

Harboured edges carved a mark in me,
Forgiveness begged though lies refused to flee.
The darkness held me close and kept me whole,
Its quiet hunger sinking through my soul.

Jagged visions slipping through the mask,
A friendly face that turns to darker tasks.
“Now see me,” whisper puppets from the past,
Open me up—let endings bleed at last.

Years of an Eternity Swimming – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Years of an Eternity Swimming

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Windows broken, moments soaking in,
a quiet shell inside the dollhouse skin.
Toys fallen over, faces swallowed thin,
I asked for something—anything—but forgiveness again.
The spoken song, the wishful tears,
a moment stretched to a million years.

Eternity struck and gone in a flash,
I stood in the middle, the calm and the clash.
Happiness sits like a sharpened doubt,
a stick in my chest waiting to be pulled out.

    Bound by the Womb

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

I don’t know how my words would serve me,
if I had one more chance to see.
    Another moment in your company—
    my mother dearest, sweet symphony.

I swim in shadows and fill the dark,
the empty parts of who I am hold your mark.
Who you were and who you are stays clear—
every moment whispers you are near.

You watch above and settle our fears,
cheers of worship rising as the fog clears.
Goodbye—hello—wait a moment, wherever you are—
forever bound by the womb of time, forever never too far.

A Sound That Was Always a Name

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Before I was, you were my world,
the place my earliest shadows curled.
A breath held tight inside the dark,
my candle gone before its spark.

I spoke your name with trembling lips,

Another year I stand alone —

I Saw the Image of Your Reflection – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

I Saw the Image of Your Reflection

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Broken images in photos we take,
grown adults crying, lost in the mistake.
Harboured demons crawling in my veins
let the devils pull tight on the reins.

I spoke when spoken to—it’s true,
yet there was nothing left to do.
    Sinister was the perception,
while this work was just conception.

Wrong was the mirrored image I saw,
    reality rotten behind the door.
I was lost, waiting to be found,
calling with cries of completeness—my last sound.

    Soundless Places Lost Inside

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Caught beneath the voice of your defiance,
stroking at the rising limb of their ignorance.
Climb on top and ride until the world goes pop—
the cream forever screaming for the ride to stop.

Out of place was the emptiness of sound,
my brain spinning circles on this merry-go-round.
Blades twisting violently like a mower cutting grass,
while my veins cut open with shards of your mirror’s glass.

A crimson river spilling from inside,
the only place that ever felt safe to hide.
My pain is more than a feeling—
it’s the beginning of my final ending.

    Moulded Out of Recycled Waste

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Poly-plastic images thrust into me,
visions of something the world shouldn’t be.
A silicone monstrosity no hope can stop,
windows opening on towers that scrape the top.

    Buried in the earth below,
I was spoken to but never meant to know.
The screen of my happiness nothing but a lie,
bitterness dancing above me in the sky.

I was not supposed to see.
    I shouldn’t let me be.
    There’s nothing left to see
    when I shouldn’t be me.

A Me Before the Mirrored Sea

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

A mirror image by the sea,
nothing left but emptiness to see.
    A wave, a cry, a screaming man,
defying death the best he can.

I wail into the world anew,
with dying words still clinging through.
I wanted to but couldn’t be,
    pathetic never suited me.

I gave the brave and spilt the blood,
I peeled the skin and fed the flood.
Flesh and memory freed the bone,
yet still beneath was never shown.

Not deep enough to set me free—
but wide enough to surrender me.

    Voided Not Validated

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Falsities inbound, no sound,
a moment cut, a world unwound.
A slice of silence keeps me still,
no me without the violent will.

But what is left within the middle?
The beginning never solved my riddle.
The end will be the sum of me,
the world will cry what it can see.

It will see in the sky
rivers red as the dead rise by.
Forgiveness is not mine to give—
the sound, the silence, what I live.

The void I want, the void I take.

Sliced in the Rhythm of Night – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Sliced in the Rhythm of Night

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Think, then revise—a piano set on edges built of nothing,
something more and something less, a shape that keeps becoming.
We give, we go, we speak too soon, as yesterday lets go,
and all tomorrow’s empty songs repeat what we don’t know.

We think and lose and think again, and drown inside pretend,
as winter, summer, autumn, spring all circle without end.
Their fevered nothings rise and fall, the echoes we distort,
the fragments of a truth we chase but never can report.

Wisdom lost behind your back, a whisper you ignore,
disrobe the self you think you wear—begin again once more.

Weighed Down by Harsh Lines – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Weighed Down by Harsh Lines

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Settle in and sedate thy sin, for nothing’s left to die for,
tomorrow once was yesterday and will be so once more.
Tired in the creeping rot, held hostage by the door,
for pessimism breeds itself and finds there’s nothing more to store.

Eyes wide shut, then open blind, to shadows once of flesh,
no moments lost, no dates undone—just lust that rots afresh.
Too tired to read, the words unheard, cursed words muttered and said,
I rest my eyes, disguised in lies, and slip silently into the dead.

Weeping on the Sitting Board – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Weeping on the Sitting Board

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Days stolen through the darkness, my skin a sin, the devil’s harness.
Promised lies and whispered death — I ask for hope, but still regress.
Lengths I’ll go and depths I’ll fall, as sinners feast on filthy things,
I wanted to but couldn’t move, my mind a sea of broken strings.

It cracked, it split, it fell away, that fragile shield that failed that day,
I begged, I screamed for scraps of sense, as my sanity slipped away.
Saliva, salt on wounded man, rubbed raw by hands that fate commands,
pathetic I, with hollow eyes — forsaken still, and damned by thy hands.

Jagged Pills Going Down – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Jagged Pills Going Down

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Jagged pills are going down, cycles spin but I wear no crown,
a shielded mirror shows no face, its glossy lies now shown.
We even, we flow, we gestate form while bodies hit the ground,
we ride the shape we leave behind, a shell no longer sound.

Spoken words all said so wrong, a hole becomes a door,
an opening through books of flesh, their pages wet with gore.
We give our hands to chainsaw steel and swear we feel it not,
we are and aren’t in broken breaths, a truth we once forgot.

Grounds of dirt, soil red with blood, the price of what we poured,
wickedness bathed in gold, no sanity will be restored.
Sorrow isn’t worth the weight, with nothing left adored,
we sink below the nothingness, just a bug pinned to a board.
