    Last to Be

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Hidden in the casting shadows of time and nothing more,
the beast of lingering lore came creeping from the chamber floor.
It took the folk on journeys grim, of discovery and dread,
it stripped their skin and snapped their bones, then fed on all they bled.

It tore their innards clean away and wore their flesh as a mask,
the wicked thing devoured them all, in their blood did it bask.
The lands were barren, empty graves, no trace of the dead,
for everything that once had breathed the earth had now shed.

The thing that crawled from bowels below, the beast that ruled them all,
then slept within the hollow dark, awaiting its next call.
Another meal will bow before, to worship it and fall,
the wretched one smiles wickedly— a child screams as shadows crawl.

People Are Just No Good – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    People Are Just No Good

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Blossoms budding in the spring, wicked writings say no thing,
Plural final numbers fall, while silence starts to sing.
Broken bones that haunt the glass, nervous moments misunderstood,
A half-stitched scarecrow stares within—and whispers, “none are any good.”

We dance on graves of yesterday, the soil no longer warm,
We build our heroes into gods, and battle against the storm.
The smile we paint is just a disguise, a trick of flesh and fear,
Each word we speak a twisted lie, to keep the truth unclear.

The mirror groans, the blossom wilts, its soil turns to mud,
The scarecrow grins with empty eyes, its straw soaked through with blood.
We reach for the light, encased in a box of wood,
And a purgatory of judgement just repeats the claim that people are no good.

I Was Not the Reflection I Saw – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

I Was Not the Reflection I Saw

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Poised to be somewhere lost, within the mirror’s call,
A spectrum of failed reflections, I never stood at all.
I struggle over plains of life, multiplied by mind,
Fragmented across the edges, of time and space combined.

We are more yet less and none, a paradox unspun,
I saw a fairytale fractured, my image come undone.
A shield of my own skin, that wore my human face,
A self-made piece of flesh and sin, stitched to fill the space.

Grotesque the wetness slipped and crawled, from deep within my chest,
Forming malice meant to be, a kindness dispossessed.
We give, we ask, we sell our proof, in photos that we take,
To show the world we’re lost yet found, a mirror of the same mistake.

Spasm of My Sickness – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Spasm of My Sickness

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Desperately I asked forgiveness, nothing more than pain,
I swelled into a shadow’s shape, deceiving and insane.
A woven tapestry of lies, reflected through the glass,
I asked, I spoke, I saw the fiend, its motion come to pass.

Something less than hope remains, the window not a door,
Yet open still it calls to me, I rise, I fall, I soar.
Tokens taken, moments lost, I ventured forth once more,
Awoken, broken, speaking names, the beasts of night ignore.

Worshipped trees and whispered gods, they answered not to me,
Time collapsed beneath their gaze, erasing what could be.
I was asking for something, yet nothing came about,
Help me, time is bleeding through, see me, fading out.

    See me, slipping free,
    see me, never be.

Wetness from the Printed Foot – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Wetness from the Printed Foot

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Forgiven in the webbed ending, the grip around my throat,
You learnt to give but never take, the promise that you wrote.
Something upside down remains, the world the wrong way round,
The images printed on the wall, still whisper without sound.

The sunlight fades on printed skin, the faces start to blur,
A whisper crawls inside my skull, too faint to know for sure.
The sign, the mark, the open wound, it beats beneath the skin,
The world a reel unspooling fast, and I am caught within.

You gave me the sign that was asked, the mark that broke apart,
I am the plaything, your thing that hides, the keeper of the dark.
I was the error cut from the light, beneath a dying sun,
While you sit within the driver’s seat, I rot in the coffin, undone.

River Song for the Long Pauses – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

River Song for the Long Pauses

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Breaths taken when seas are shaking, trees grow without delay,
A table unstable, unable to hold the weight of the day.
We are too far, the star drifts slowly out to sea,
Flatlines stretch across the glass, the only thing I see.

Richness disgusting, a haggard plaything’s grin,
We caress the screens that don’t respond, and drink the static in.
By the words that block our ears, the silence grows within,
Taking a haggard breath, we lose what might have been.

Break the system on a whim, and drown beneath its skin,
Nothing left but silly string, to tie the ghosts within.
You are not the one forsaken, ugly is my morning,
Butter up your reflection now, and drink while time is mourning.

Transcendental Indentations – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Transcendental Indentations

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Justified inner workings, lost within the fractured mind,
We play to pry and dive to die, in sins we are aligned.
The sinners sinned, the fornicated, redesigned their faith in man,
A woven mask of madness worn, since sanity began.

We spoke of wondered nights on the lands, adrift upon the damned,
Drifting slow through salted waves, where shadows take command.
Woven, spoken, lost, awoken, judged for what we were before,
Eyes stained deep with foul disgust, a mirror on the floor.

The Spectacle of a Spectre – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    The Spectacle of a Spectre

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

We strive to sit, yet struggle still, not ours the spark to start,
We cried to have a chance at will, then let it fall apart.
Celebrity crushes whisper sin, their smiles a poisoned style,
Fornication lost in dreams, we wander for a mile.

Haggard stand our victims, me, wisdom comes not from a tree,
We listen close to stories told, in prophecies lost to sea.
I was the flag, waved high with pride, now torn and left to be,
The ending suffocates my lungs, the ghost you failed to see.

A Cut Is Almost Medicated – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    A Cut Is Almost Medicated

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Appetites that are unkind, they pull the soul in threads,
Playful wishes woven in flesh, where dying laughter spreads.
Another decaying mess of sin, we swing and twist and pray,
We beg and bleed throughout the night, and curse the dawning day.

Purgatory in madness burns, we search for something kind,
Longing deep within the dark, a moment left behind.
Pleading for a fragile truth, catharsis lost in pain,
Broken in the process, we fall and rise again.

We reflect ourselves, the mirror torn from hell,
Shards sharper than the tongue, in silence where we dwell.
Cut the flesh, spill the spit, bleed the blood,
Swallow all that’s hiding, wallow in the mud.

A Light at the Beginning of the Tunnel – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

A Light at the Beginning of the Tunnel

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

I wasn’t, then I was, this thing is not quite right,
Yet right is never wrong, I lingered through the night.
Too long I stayed when I should’ve gone, the door an open plea,
Pages ripped and torn away, what’s left is only me.

Myself a fading mystery, eyes half-closed in prayer,
I asked for words and time and forgiveness in the air.
Then all I saw, the world unspun, its truth bled through my skin,
I welcomed in my misery, let darkness draw me in.

Blood and cold with open arms, they whispered me to rest,
For I am not the vessel, just the hollow in its chest.
Empty still, I drift inside, through echoes dim and thin,
A light at the tunnel’s birth—and I, the ghost within.

A Wet Moment Soaked in Red

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

I schismed with the silence, woke within the dark,
Broken by the eyeless gaze that left no living mark.
I saw nothing, yet it lingered, behind me shadows stirred,
Stolen moments turned to years, their whispers never heard.

Handfuls fell through trembling palms, until I lost it all,
I was trapped within this world, my name upon its wall.
Had it wept, I could have breathed, had it laughed, I’d see,
Had it smiled among the embers, it would’ve set me free.

Where the Edges Meet – A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

    Where the Edges Meet

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Winter was a weaving web, it brought me all undone.
The underneath was sweeter still, blood red beneath the sun.
Wafer thin, the things I said, the things I can’t outrun,
Oh woe is me, my kingdom’s come, my sorrow’s just begun.

The silence soaked up all my tears, her blood my everything,
A moment lost to fading thought, a hush the shadows bring.
Snippets reel on other screens, played slow and far away,
My life a mirror to the one that slipped from me that day.

I scraped the tiles, I broke the glass, I watched the light decay,
And heard my name within the dark, forever my dismay.

    Cadence to Cradle

A Twisted Verse by Matthew Tonks

Lingering light, perversion of night, a breath I choose to bind.
Gluttony my tomb tonight, and words will carve my mind.
There was a moment through the dark, when midnight lost its sight,
I saw a hobbled man take flight beneath the bleeding light.

He captivated me, his joy became my sin,
For in our end he ruled the night and drew my spirit in.
A witch’s broth, her laugh divine, her fate already spread,
Wrinkles in the flesh and bone spoke softly to the dead.

I asked and begged before the end, and gained its fleeting trust,
My shadow slipped from where I stood and fell into the dust.
Now something moves within the glass, more me than I have been,
A truth unmasked, a darker twin, that stares from deep within.
