The Roundhead, Part 1 – You Are My Sin

He leans back in his seat as he reads over the stories last paragraph, and lets out a satisfied release of air as he presses down on the enter button, scheduling the final post for his Halloween masterpiece. From the corner of his eye, he sees a notification pop up in the top portion of the screen, telling him that the first chapter had been posted and he smiles as he switches off the monitor.

“Think you know how it ends, wait and see, you piece of shit,” he mumbles to himself as he gets up from his seat and stumbles over to his bed, where he collapses, almost instantly, into a deep, dark, fevered sleep, his body drained and in need of a recharge.

It’s little more than an hour later when he’s woken by his phone violently vibrating in his pocket, he fumbles his way in and pulls it out.

“Gareth, it’s late,” he mumbles into the phone, not even looking at the caller ID tag.

“Dude I tried not to, but I fucking couldn’t help myself, are you fucking watching?” Gareth screams down the other end of the phone.

    “Watching what?”

“Don’t give me that shit Marty, we both know what I’m fucking talking about, the blog man, the fucking blog! It’s gone crazy, just like you fucking wrote it would!”

“What?” Marty says as he slowly sits up on the side of the bed, rubbing his eyes.

“It’s gone motherfucking viral, world FUCKING wide, just like it’s supposed to, you’ve gotta see it Marty, people are sharing it thousands at a time! I can’t believe it, I can’t, but it’s happening, it’s really fucking happening!”

“Calm down man, I can hardly understand you, give me a moment,” He says, stumbling towards his desk and switching the monitor back on, somehow dropping the phone in the process. His jaw drops open, his eyes widen as he stares at the screen, watching the notifications flash up, then seconds later, replaced by another. For a moment, he feels his heart beat begin to pick up pace, and his eyes dance, as the screen strobes violently, like a light show at an all-night rave. He shakes his head, jerking back into reality, and peers into the nothingness of the floor below, searching for his phone. His eyes take several moments to adjust to the darkness, but once they have it only takes seconds to find it, as he can still clearly hear Gareth talking, who, is mid-sentence when he finally puts the phone back to his ear.

“…. you hear me Marty or is this the part where you dropped the phone? Or does me saying that mean you’ve just picked it up? I really should’ve reread the first chapter before I called. Anyway, six million new likes in the last thirty minutes man, holy fucking shit, that’s like, unheard of!” Gareth yells.

“I know,” Marty says softly, as a smile grows on his face, he can feel the blood rushing to his cheeks, and he begins nervously tapping his foot on the ground. “I fucking knew it, I fucking knew it was going to be awesome. But how the fucking hell did it travel so fast? It only posted like an hour ago, that’s just insane, none of the preludes even got close to that, nowhere near it.”

“It’s because you didn’t make a big deal about them in the story, so they were never a big deal in reality maybe? Anyway, it’s been shared over every social media platform you can think of, by just about everyone, who’s anyone, and more who are no ones. You did it man, we fucking cracked the big time! I mean, I had my doubts, I thought maybe, maybe we’d get some traffic, you know like the preludes, but it’s gone insane, like, out of this world insane! And my sites exploded as well, like off its guts exploded. The traffics moving through and not just to like my stuff, but they’re buying too, they’re fucking buying anything connected to the story, all my original prints, it’s like they can’t resist!” he says with excitement.

Marty laughs, “They can’t, like you said it’s in the story. But, remember, you know what’s going to happen ne…..” He stops mid-sentence, as something crashes to the floor beyond the bedroom, his dog Abby lets out a low growl from her bed, and as Marty slowly turns his chair towards the doorway, droplets of sweat run down his forehead.

“You better not be thinking about going out that doorway?”

“Why? Because of what happens next?” Mary says as he gets up from the seat, nervously biting into his bottom lip.

    “Stop it.”

    “Stop what?”

“What you’re doing right now, this, acting out the story, turning the joke into something fucking creepy. It was funny when you first started trying to scare me with your creepy arse phone calls and then this whole Clare going up the coast shit, but now you’re taking it too far!”

“What phone calls?” Marty says as he places a hand on the door handle.

“DON’T! I fucking swear to god, I’ll hang up!”

“You do what you have to do, but I’ve gotta go through the door,” Marty says as he pulls the door open quickly, and Abby rushes out, into the hallway.

“Seriously Marty, this isn’t your story, just lock the door and call the cops, PLEASE?”

“If it’s not my story, then I’ve got nothing to worry about, do I?”

“Oh god, it’s been happening the whole time hasn’t it?”

“You already said it, but I guess, you didn’t really want to admit it, word for word,” he says as he takes a deep breath and waits, Abby barks furiously out in the hallway, then lets out a yelp, followed by silence.

    “Marty, dude, I-I-I…”

“I know man, don’t stress, like you said, it’s only a story,” Marty says as he takes a deep breath and walks out into the hallway, the lights flicker violently, exploding seconds later in a shower of glass and flames, he can make out Abby’s still form a few feet away, and standing over her, as he knew it would be, is a massive, hulking shape, looking towards him, with deep, black, pools for eyes.

“Oh fuck Gareth, it looks just like your drawings, only…” He stops midway through his sentence, as it suddenly moves forward, appearing and disappearing, like a poorly animated cartoon, until it’s standing just a few centimetres from him. He feels the urine run down his leg, it’s warmth spreads quickly across his groin, followed by a coldness, that threatens to freeze him in place, he lets go of the phone, and it crashes to the ground.

The large figure leans forward, its hot, putrid breath wafts into his face, causing his eyes to sting and water, then it speaks, “I’m the whispers in your ear, the words that only you hear, but now, as the seal between our worlds break, to let me in, to do my worst, to take your sin, I……”

“YOU CAN’T BE REAL, IT’S ONLY A STORY!” Marty yells, it grabs him by the face and lifts him high into the air, letting out a low, gravelly growl, before it continues.

“… I’m given shape, I’m given form, I take my name, you chose it well, so let it be your final word, so say it, say it, say it with me, say The Roundhead, and, I’ll set you free!” It says through razor sharp teeth as its grip tightens, pulling him close. The next few moments they stare silently at each other, until Marty, through clenched, bloody teeth, sucks in one final, desperate breath, as his face twists with anger.

“FUCK YOU!” he yells, then the beast drives its hand through his chest, ripping into him with its razor sharp claws, and, as Marty’s life drains from him, the beast stares in his eyes, watching, savouring, devouring, all that Marty once was. Then, releases its grip, letting his lifeless body crash to the floor, and Marty’s dead eyes stare towards the phone, lying a few feet away.

“Marty! This can’t be fucking real!” Gareth yells into the phone, but his cries are only greeted by silence from the other end. His heart races a million miles an hour, in desperation he hangs up the phone and quickly dials triple zero, seconds pass before it’s answered.

“Police, fire and rescue or ambulance?” The woman asks on the other end of the line.

“I was talking to my friend on the phone and something happened, I’m not sure, but he said he thought someone was in the house with him, and then, and then he went to take a look, it sounded like, fuck, it sounded like something happened! You need to send someone over there straight away!” He quickly yells down the line.

“I’ll put you through to police emergency, please stay on the line sir,” she says as the line disconnects.

“FUCK!” He yells as it takes another few moments before the phone is answered again.

“This is Police Emergency, you’re talking with Mike, what is the state of your emergency?”

“I was on the phone to my friend Marty, Marty Towns, and h-he, he thought he heard a sound in his apartment, and h-he, FUCK! He went to check it out and then there was some banging and shit, he dropped the phone and then nothing! I think something’s happened to him!” He says quickly, in one breath.

“Okay sir, can you tell me your friends address? And, have you tried calling him back?”

“No, I called you straight away, FUCK! He could be hurt or worse, it’s just like his story, it’s all coming true! You’ve gotta get someone over there!”

“Please sir, calm down, we’re here to help, now, what’s the address of your friend?”

    “Seventeen Palm Drive.”

“Okay, I’ll send someone out as soon as possible, now, can I get your name a…” before Mike can continue his questions the line goes dead.

“Hello?” He yells into the phone. “HELLO? FOR FUCK SAKE IS ANYONE THERE?” He yells shaking the phone vigorously in front of his face. “FUCK!”

A cold shiver runs down his spine as the air feels suddenly electrified, his computer lets out a spark, followed seconds later by a groaning noise, and then, explodes, sending Gareth crashing to the ground.

“WHAT THE FUCK’S GOING ON?” he screams, frantically looking around the room, and then, that’s when he sees it. Standing a few feet away from where he lies, is a pale, lifeless figure. Slowly Gareth’s eyes work their way up towards the figures head, he fights the urge to look, but he feels helpless in his actions, and his heart jumps a beat when he stares into the figures, dead, soulless eyes. “M-M-Marty?”

Marty shows no reaction to Gareth’s words, he just stares off into nothingness, and then as if someone had pressed play on a remote control, he begins to speak, “Its words need not be read, for it only needs to be shared to spread, from the depths it comes to feed, first on those who gave it life and then on those who passed on its seed.”

“This is not fucking happening, it can’t be, it’s just like you w….” His words fall short as a huge, behemoth of a figure rises up behind Marty’s pale form as it flickers away, and then the beast moves forward, as if life blinks with each movement of its jerky, awkward steps, until, it is standing before him, looking viciously down at Gareth. It’s cold, lifeless, black eyes stare at him, its decaying, putrid stench wafts into his face, he holds back the desire to throw up, not through desire, but because he is frozen in fear. Then, it brings its huge foot down on to his head, slowly putting pressure on it as it speaks.

“You played your part, you gave me your heart, you created my visage, you captured the dark, and now as I break through, my journey complete, your duties are over, you’re obsolete,” it says driving it’s massive foot to the floor, crushing Gareth’s skull, and then, flickers away into the darkness of the night.

  • My Journey So Far…

    My Journey So Far…

A little over eight months ago I set about breaking the frustration I was feeling of working on, what one day, I hope, will be a completed multi book story, I’ve been working on for quite a few years. I did this by writing short stories and sending them to various publishers throughout the world, getting ideas out of my head, and not into my books. One story I wrote was called the Roundhead, it was about a call centre employee who was presented with a call, from a woman, whose family had been slaughtered by the title character, who stemmed from an old urban legend used to terrify little kiddies. The story was violent, quick and what I thought, bloody decent. Sadly it didn’t get picked up, but, by the time I found out, I had begun this journey, and I thought, why not rework it and post it on the blog. What took place after that was something crazy, insane, and, addictive. A good friend of mine, Garry Williams, an amazing artist, fuled my fire and together we created not only a story that plays with the very fabric of what we know, but with reality itself, as the Roundhead became my misguided muse, trying to steer me towards the ending it wanted. The original story, in part survived, but the world around it, exploded into something, I still am not fully at peace with. I’m proud to share this story with you over the next few days, along with Garry’s artwork, he captured so much of this world and its characters, The Roundhead owes its image to that man, and it’s well aware of that, as you will soon find out. So, all that’s really left to say is, mind the first step, it’s a killer.

    ZERO

    Alone,

    darkness,

    I taste it still,

    what once was,

when it ripped my sin from me,

    when it,

    when it won,

    did it?

    I can’t remember,

    I know I had a plan,

    I think,

    I’m not sure it worked,

    it played me,

    it twisted what I created,

    into what it wanted,

    what it needed,

    but,

    there was still hope,

there was still the flash drive,

    maybe,

    it wasn’t over yet,

    maybe,

    I could stop it.

…Tonight, don’t miss the beginning of the end, as The Roundhead begins…

“Well, haven’t you fucked the monkey on this one?”

“What’s that supposed to mean? It wasn’t my fault, I was forced into it, I only wanted to talk to her, really, I did, I never meant to, to….”

“What, stab her sixty seven times? Bullshit, so don’t lie to me, you know it makes me sick when you do it. Like, you somehow expect me to believe you, when you don’t even try to sound convincing.”

“SHUT UP! Y-Y-You know I didn’t want to do it, you know the bitch forced my hand. FUCK! I can’t even believe I’m sitting here, trying to talk my way out of this, with you!”

“That’s because you know you’ve fucked up, and there’s no way out, it’s a mess, you’re mess, it always has been since you first saw her.”

“B-B-Bullshit, don’t make out you didn’t have a role in all this, don’t make out your mister innocent,” he yells, looking across the room, towards him. “You know it wasn’t always like this, I-I-I, I knew if I could just make this work, it’d fix everything I’d done wrong, and, maybe then, she’d forgive me,” he says, staring at the dark, red, sticky, wet, blood, as it drips from his hands.

“Maybe, your first mistake was killing her? Actually, that was your second mistake, your first mistake was coming her to try and talk to her.”

“Kelly was in the way of everything, twisting Fiona’s thoughts, making it look like I was the one causing problems, making it look like I was the bad guy, when it was her all the time.”

“It’s going to be pretty hard proving it now, I mean, look at what you just did? I don’t want to be sour about it all, I know the work you put into this, but, fuck, you went postal on that bitch, of the wall postal! So, do you really  think there’s anywhere else left to go, but down from here?”

    “We could bury the body?”

“Hey, take a step back there Hannibal Lecter, what makes you think I want to be your Clarice?”

“Seriously? What the fuck sort of analogy is that? Wouldn’t it’ve made more sense to say Will instead of Clarice?”

“I’m a purist, I rather Clarice than Will, the TV show, it went too far. Fuller twisted the fuck out of what I loved about the original books and movies, anyway, who doesn’t love Anthony Hopkins?”

“You’re crazy, the movies? The Lambs was great, I’ll say that bu Seriously? Hannibal and Red Dragon? They ruined the series, recasting was the first fuck up, and then, terrible story telling the second. Fuller gave the world a whole new coat of paint, made it vibrant, intense. It was next level stuff, I can’t believe you’d prefer the shit movie series, the TV show was almost, like real compared to them.”

“I can see how you would say that, looking at your handiwork here, I’d think you were auditioning for the new season.”

“Fuck you, who asked you to come along and offer your opinions anyway?”

“It’s not like I could’ve stayed at home or anything genius.”

“Yeah, okay, valid point. But, can you for the sake of argument, just agree with me from time to time?”

“Don’t think I can do that, I mean, why would they call me a conscience, if I didn’t offer criticism of what you’ve done and are about to do?”

The rancid smell of death tears at his eyes, and he tightly clutches at the handkerchief, firmly pressing it against his nose and mouth.

A radio comes to life with a screech, “Bannister, answer me god damn it!”

He raises the mouthpiece to his dry, pale lips, “I found her.”

    “You what?”

“I said I fucking found her,” he replies as he rushes out of the room and empties the contents of his stomach onto the floor.

    “Is she?”

“Yeah, she’s dead, looks like she’s been like it for weeks, probably the whole time we’ve been looking for her.”

“Do you want to give us…..” the radio goes dead, he stares at it for a few moments, waiting for them to continue, but nothing.

“Sharon, everything okay?” he says into his mouthpiece, he waits for a reply, but it’s only silence that follows. “Sharon? what the fucks happening?”

“Hello Charles,” a voice says over the radio.

    “Xander?”

“I’m touched you remember my voice, it’s been a while.”

“You’re the one behind all this?”

“You seem surprised, surly all the little clues I’d left for you were descriptive enough for you to know it was me. Or, did I expect too much?”

“I had an idea, but I was hoping it was wrong, you better not have hurt her!”

“Or what? You’ll make me pay? She’s alive, for now, but I don’t know how much loner that will last.”

    “What do you want?”

“I want what everyone wants, I want to be loved, accepted, enjoyed, I want what you took from me all though years ago.”

“Debbie’s dead, she crossed the line, just like you did, it should’ve been you who ended up with a bullet in the head instead of her, I’ll give you that. But what you two did, there’s no going back from that!”

“Fuck you Charles, we were doing god’s work, we were making the city better for everyone. Until you stuck your fucking nose in it all.”

“You were killing innocent children Xander, kids! Innocent kids, you weren’t doing god’s work, you were losing your shit and someone had to stop you.”

“We were doing what god wanted. The  population was growing too fast, someone needed to make the decisions for the betterment of all, and that decision was given to me and her, the new Adam and Eve, resetting the population, so it could begin again.”

“I’m going to find you and I’m going to do what I should’ve done all those years ago,” he feels something cold press against the back of his head.

“You’re a sinner, the lord has told me you must be cleansed from this world,” Xander says as he pushes the barrel of the gun into his head.

“You’re fucking crazy, can’t you see that, can’t you see what you’re doing is wrong?”

He leans in and whisperers in Charles ear, “I am he who has been chosen, I am the master of ceremony, I am the cleaner of souls, I am…..” a shot interrupts his speech, and he lets out a gasp of air, as his eyes stare forwards into nothingness, Charles forces him away, and spins around, they lock eyes for a few seconds, the blood soaks into Charles shirt as it escapes from the hole he shot into himself, to get to Xander.

“You’re not chosen,” he says as he unload the remainder of the clip into Xander’s head.

    Day 164 – Boxindul – 50 Word Story Expanded

“I guess you want me to start at the beginning?”

“Is that where you want to start?”

“Not really, but I think you need to know something, an overview, so you can see how we ended up here.”

“Well, then tell me, how did it all start?” He asks, leaning back in his seat.

    “When Jenny found the box.”

    “Where did she find it?”

“It was in her locker, just sitting there.”

“So, someone had unlocked her locker, somehow, placed this box in and then locked it again, is that about right?”

“That’s what she said, and before you ask, yes, I believed what she said, I was with her most of the day, all day once we got there, and if it was in there in the morning, she would’ve said something, so, it had to’ve happened then.”

“Okay, so, what happened next, after she found the box?”

“Well, we didn’t know what to do, we thought maybe it could’ve been a bomb or something worse, so, we left it there until we had time to think.”

“So, you thought about it and then what? You decided you should just open it?”

“Well, yeah, I mean, Jenny had no enemies, everyone loved her, and I honestly, wouldn’t think anyone would target her to kill everyone else.”

“So, tell me, what happened after you opened the box?”

“There was nothing inside it, it was empty, or at least, that’s what we thought at first, it looked that way, that changed when she threw it in the bin and then some weird light started going off. We looked in and the box seemed different, like it was, I don’t know, it’s going to sound crazy if I say it out loud.”

“Try me, you’d be surprised what I believe.”

“Well,” he says leaning across the table. “Well, it seemed alive.”

    “What, the box?”

“Yeah, it was, it was strange, like it was actually a living, breathing thing, see,” he says, collapsing into his chair. “It sounds nuts, I mean, how could it be?”

    “What happened next?”

“Well, we fished it out of the bin and decided to get it to Mister Winters, our science teacher, he’s pretty cool, and, well, we thought if anyone had a chance at knowing what it was, it was Mister Winters.”

“But, everything didn’t go to plan did it?”

“Well, of course not, I mean, that’s why you’re here right?”

“Sort of, we’re here to determine what the next manoeuvre will be. Now, what happened to Jenny?”

“As soon as Mister Winters saw the box he wet himself, like he knew what it was, Jenny saw her chance, so she tried to get the fuck out of dodge, that’s when the box grew those teeth, and, well, next thing I know, she’s missing a chunk of flesh from her throat, and convulsing on the ground in front of me, choking on her own blood.”

“So what, you just stood back and watched while this happened?”

“I had no choice, I was holding the fucking thing, and it wouldn’t let me do anything.”

    “Right, then what happened?”

“Well, that’s when Mister Winters started going on about some cursed box thing, and told me all the stories that were going around school about him were true, he was, a homosexual wizard, and the box, was a creature called a Boxindul. He said the Boxindul needed to be banished before it hurt anyone else, so he started mumbling something I couldn’t understand, waved his wand around, I swear I didn’t see him pull it from anywhere, and, as he brought it down, to finish the spell, this Boxindul thing launched itself from my hands and attacked him, there was nothing I could do, he died a hero, saved us all I bet.” he says, looking up at him, tears in his eyes.

“Okay, I think, you’ve answered all the questions we have at this stage,” he says, as he slowly gets up from his seat.

    “So, I’m good to go?”

He sucks in a quick breath through clenched teeth and screws his face up, “I think, there might be a problem with that.”

“What? Why? I’ve told you everything, I swear!”

“I know you have, It’s just that the video footage we have, shows us a different account of what happened. One that doesn’t involve this Boxindul, just you, and the two victims.”

SlasherMonster Fun – Ripped – 50 Word Story Expanded

I had the fortune of being presented with the opportunity to take part in a bit of fun during the October season over at SlasherMonster Magazine, the idea was to take a short, 50 word story, expand it, and SlasherMonster would post it during the month.

Okay, sounds like something I’ve been doing here every week, so what’s the catch? You have to expand a 50 word story that wasn’t yours! Bang, mind blown. I had fun with this, more fun than I normally do, which is hard to top, because, lets face it, I enjoy spreading the flesh with a sharp blade, and playing with your gizzards at the best of time.  So, without going on anymore, the second short that I had the pleasure to be part of is up, waiting for your eyes, just follow the below links.

For Poet Rummager’s (Rose Perez) original 50 Word Story, venture over to HERE.

Then, once you have taken it inside, and are curious to see where I took this deeply dark, disturbing tale, head over to SlasherMonster HERE, and read my expanded version.

    Slowly,

    as the veil lifts,

    and you see me now,

    for what I am,

    the beast,

    the demon,

the bastard son of this world,

I ask you not to be scared,

    for you should rejoice,

    for when I take you,

    you and your sin,

    it’ll be forever,

    it’ll be to the end,

    I’ll never leave you,

    and you’ll never leave me,

so close your eyes my child,

for it’s time t.. What, are you crying?

    can it be true,

after all the words I’ve said,

    you still fear me?

    Day 163 – Daily Prompt – Millions – 50 Word Story Expanded

“It’s easy, you either sign it all over to me, or both of you get a bullet, to the head!” She says, as she holds the rifle towards them.

“Marion, this is ridiculous! Put the gun down, and let’s talk ab…” But he doesn’t get to finish his sentence as a shot fires from the rifle and hits him squarely in the centre of his chest, he stands there for a few long, agonising moments, as the shock slowly sets in, the girl hiding beneath the beds doona begins to scream erratically. His eyes, slowly look up at her, as his mouth drops open, then, he collapses to the ground, stone cold dead. She fires another shot, it rips into the doona, and the girl hiding underneath it lets out one last wretched scream, then, falls silent, as a large, red stain, begins to grow quickly withing the doona and across the sheet. Seconds pass, while she stands there, admiring her handiwork, then, the door bursts open and he runs into the house, sweat dripping from him, his heart racing a million miles an hour, his eyes, desperately searching the hallway, but, as soon as he sees her, and the smoking rifle in her hands, he knows, he’s too late.

“What did you do?” He yells as he runs towards her, she swings the rifle his way, and he throws his hands up in the air, but, quickly drops them again, knowing, they’d do little to shield him if she’d fired. “M-M-Mother, what the fuck did you do?”

“Don’t you dare talk to me like that! I did what that lying sack of shit deserved, what all pieces of shit like him deserve,” she says, spitting a mouthful of yellowish saliva onto the floor. “I sent him and the whore he was fucking to be judged by their maker.”

“Fuck Mother! Have you lost it? What the fucking hell were you thinking? Couldn’t you just leave him?”

Her lip trembles, and her grip on the rifle tightens, “We had a prenup, I’d get nothing if I walked away,. And his new floozy, she’d end up with everything, and I couldn’t let that happen, not after all these years, not after everything I went through, I wasn’t going to lose it, not without a fight!”

“Don’t you see, don’t you realise, you’ll lose it all, you’ll get nothing, and you’ll end up going to prison, for what?”

“For everything, we’ll make it look like a home invasion, all you need to do is be my alibi, and we’ll share in all of it, together!” She says.

“You’re crazy Mother, it’s over, you’re done, I’m calling the police and nothing you can say will stop me, I won’t be a part of this, I won’t be part of your plans!”

“Don’t be a fool Jeremiah, we can salvage this, all of it. Just remember what I taught you?”

“What you taught me? When did you teach me anything, Mother? All you ever wanted was Daddies millions, and that’s never going to happen now, so, put down the gun, and go!”

She lowers the rifle, slowly, as a tear runs down her cheek, “I-I-I, I knew you’d say that,” she says softly, before raising the rifle again, and firing.

Day 163 – The Hunt – 50 Word Story Expanded

He looks up, his heart beating furiously in his chest, taking a moment to catch his breath, then, he smiles, “As many times as it takes us, until we track him down, that’s how long.”

“It’ll just keep moving, six months Cole, six months and we’re no closer than we were when we started all this shit!”

“Bullshit, we’re getting close, the fuckers panicking, can’t you sense it?”

“All I see is more innocent lives lost, that’s it, we’re not getting closer, we’re doing shit all, cleaning up his mess.”

“You’re wrong Wesley, we’re close, closer than we’ve ever been before,” he says as he wipes the knife’s blade on his trousers and slides it in a pouch dangling from the side of his belt. “You see, he’s choosing random victims now, he doesn’t have the time to select his prey like he did before, so we’re fucking with his mojo, and soon, we’re going to be standing in front of him, then, well, then we’ll gut the son of a bitch.”

“What if you’re wrong? What if he’s playing with us, baiting us into a trap?”

“He’s not smart enough, you’ll see, we’ve got him on the run, you can take my word on that one,” he says as he gets to his feet, wiping his blood drenched hands on the side of his pants. “Besides, even if he was, he’d be so weak, we’d be able to overpower him fairly quickly.”

“You seem sure of yourself?” A voice says from the darkness of the street beyond.

They both turn quickly, as a man walks out of the darkness, he smiles and nods his head towards both of them and then, looks over at the torn, bloody, dismembered body of the young girl that lies on the ground before them.

“Such a pity, she was, such a sweet girl,” he says, turning his attention back to Cole and Wesley.

“Is it game time already?” Cole says, gritting his teeth, and pulling his knife from its pouch once again.

    “Game time? I don’t follow?”

But, Cole does not reply with words, as he charges at the man, swinging his knife viciously out in front of him, the man in black moves quickly, easily out of harm’s way, gripping Cole by the throat and pulling it back powerfully, a popping sound can be heard, and he goes limp, crashing to the ground in a heap. Where he stays, silently, void of life. The man looks up at Wesley, who stands, frozen in place, sweat pouring from his forehead.

“Hello Wesley, it’s been some time since we stood before one another, how’ve you been?”

    “Fuck you!”

“Fuck you, really? Is that how it’s going to be? Like we’re enemies and not, brothers?”

“You fucking killed Cole, what do you expect me say, he was my friend.”

“Wesley, we don’t have time from friends, you know that, after all we..”

“Fuck you Porter, fuck you and all you’re little fucking children. I’ve been, we’ve been cleaning up your shit for the last two weeks, Cole and I, we had something. A bond, one that I didn’t have to fucking manipulate him for, and you just show up, doing you’re fucking self-centred shit, like you always do, and kill him, without checking first. He was marked, with my mark, you piece of shit.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I-I-I-I, I didn’t realise you two were that close.”

“Of course you wouldn’t, because you never pay attention to anyone else except yourself, so why don’t you just go and get in the car, Daddy’s going to be pissed when we get home.”

“But I don’t want to go home, I wan….” He doesn’t get a chance to finish as Wesley is upon him and slaps him across the face.

“I said, get in the car, this is over.”

“Can we really trust him? He’s like, our greatest enemy.” She says.

“I know, but the very world threatens to shatter itself into a million pieces, I don’t see that we really have any other choice.”

They look over to him, as he sits there, grinning proudly at them both. “What are you guys talking about?”

“How far we can trust you.”

“Oh, I like that, honest answer, does that mean we’re pals now?”

    “What the fuck, you’re lucky I have…”

“Vanessa, don’t, we need him,” he says as he grabs her by the arm.

“Get fucked we do, have you forgotten what he did to Sonya and Carrion, we don’t need a piece of scum like that. Once we’ve served our usefulness he’ll turn, like he always does, and then what, he’ll kill one of us? Can you live with blood on your hand Gregor, when you could’ve done something about it before hand?”

“You know it’s not like that, but we don’t have any other choice, if Sandow gets his hands on the rings then everything we know will be nothing, can you live with that? We have a chance to stop him and we can’t ignore it, not just because of some bad blood between us all.”

“Bad blood? Carrion was my bother, Sonya was your friend, this piece of shit deserves nothing.”

“I hate to interrupt, but, you know she’s right,” he says.

“Shut up and stay out of this Colgrave, the grown ups are talking.”

“No I will not, not when you two are arguing over things that do not matter, not when the fate of the very existence of this world is at stake. Now, if I was able to put my feelings aside and come here to join you in your battle to stop Sandow, surly you should be able to put aside your feelings as well. Together, we can get to the final ring before he does, stopping this foolishness once and for all.”

    “Are you fucking for real?”

“I am indeed, would I not be here if I wasn’t?”

“No fucktard, you misunderstand my question. What I said was, are you for real, and by that I meant, are you insane, off your tree, fucked up in the head? Because you’d have to be to think that you’re the big person here, putting aside your feelings,” she says, as she swings back around to Gregor. “Can’t you see what this demented freak is doing, he’s trying to play with our heads, stir up trouble, like he’s always done! He doesn’t want to help protect the last ring, he just wants to be a pain in the arse.”

“You never said you had the last ring.”

“That’s because it’s a fucking secret,” she yells, turning back to him, the smile that grows on his face says more than any words could. “Oh fuck.” She mutters under her breath.

“Oh fuck indeed,” he says as his eyes glow a fiery yellow, and his size beings to grow, his muscles tear through his clothing and then, through his skin, until it stands before them, its eyes, hot and burning, it’s skin, the color of charcoal infused with molten lava, it’s jaw as big a their heads and as strong as a bear trap, and it smiles. “Now, give me my ring!” Sandow growls.
