Switching Off The Nightmares

Wide awake,

as the darkness comes down,

like a demon on high,

stripping skin,

snapping bone,

sucking marrow from its home,

that thing,

that beast,

it calls my name,

it’s voice like razor-sharp claws against my soul,

I cower,

I hide,

I’d run if it would help,

and believe me I’ve tried,

but every time,

it finds me again,

and drags me back down,

until the daylight comes again,

and I start my race against the night,

surviving until the last,

rays of light,
