I entered a short story competition that required me to write a 100 word short story in 24 hours. The story needed to meet three things, a genre (Sci-Fi), an event (Seeing a rainbow) and to use a certain word (Micro). It took me a while to find the right idea and to get it to work in a way I was happy with. But like the last time I entered something similar, I enjoyed the desire to find the story that sparked the right way for me. So, for the sake of creativity, here is 1 of the 24 rejected stories in a 100 word format..

Unplanned Progeny
Sarah’s last words are drowned out by her bitter cries of agony as the transporter cuts her in half, leaving her legs flopping around the room like a fish pulled from its life-giving water.
“Now THAT’S how you chase a rainbow, Micro,” Sebastian says with a smile as he winks playfully towards you the reader, once again acknowledging your valuable assistance in another perilous space adventure.
Second Technician Ally Redmund falls into his arms and blinks her eyes coyly, but his moment of carnal delights is interrupted once again, as Flight Commander Overteen’s voice booms across the internal communication systems.
