    Day 275 – Ninety – Short Story

He blinks, feeling the warmth of it run down his face, he spits a wad of saliva, blood, and pieces of several broken teeth the the ground, coughs violently, before spitting again.”Damn,” he says with a chuckle, before looking up, he squints, and places a hand in the air, shielding his eye from the light. “Do you want me to tell you a story?” He says to the small group that stand over his broken, bloody frame.

“Your days of telling stories are done Daniel, you need to accept what’s about to happen, because you can’t talk your fucking way out of this one!” One of the men says as he grips a bloody led pipe in his hand and snarls.

Daniel laughs, “Judgment is a funny thing Simon, for those who cast stones, should be weary of where they’ll land.”

“You piece of shit!” Simon growls as he smashes the pipe across Daniels face, sending him to meet the ground once more.

“Truth hurts,” Daniel mutters as he lifts himself up on all fours, Simon bites down on his bottom lip as he drives a boot into Daniel’s side, sending him to the ground again.

“The time for penance is over, your sins will go with you to your end, and this town will, finally begin, to HEAL!” Simon yells, as he drives the pipe deep into Daniel’s skull, silence follows, as they all stand watching, as Daniel’s blood pools in an ever growing puddle beneath his now still, lifeless body. “Now, we can, begin, again,” He says as he turns to the others, the pipe drops from his hand, and his eyes grow wide as he stares into the cold, dead eyes of….

    Day 274 – Pilgrim – Short Story

I’ve travelled far, across these lands in search of something, trying to find that one thing, that something, you all have, that something that keeps you where you are, stops you from traveling, stops you from, yourself.

Cold, warm, wet, wild, I’ve seen it all, and more, beauty and ugliness, hate and love, but, I’ve never found my home, only something else, not the something I yearn for, not the something, I wish to find, but, how can I find it if I do not know where it is? If I do not know what it is?

This journey I have undertaken, has shaped who I am, has made me hard, when I need to be, the deepest jungles make you do what must be done, when life and death is chosen through your own actions, beasts roam lands, hunting not to kill, but to survive, to feast, to feed themselves and there young. I have no family, I have no pride, I am a lone wolf, hunting for my own survival, but yearning for something, more.

But what is it? What is it that I seek, that I desire?

Is it what you have? Is it what you could give me?

No, it’s not that, it’s not your life I want, it’s your life I want to take. You see, this world, it offers nothing for me, all I see are lies, imperfections, things that cannot be fixed, things that cannot be repaired.  It they continue, they move forward, broken, diseased, when, they should end.

That is my something, that is my role.

I’ll never have what you have, I’ll never have a home.

But, one day, you and I will share a moment, and then, I will move on to the next, and leave you to wallow in your sin, as the light fades from your eyes, and you are once more, part, of this dying earth.

  • Day 273 – Fame – Short Story

    Day 273 – Fame – Short Story

The TV screen flickers to life, and an awkward middle aged man in a grey suite stares from the other side, smilingly faintly before adjusting himself in his seat, “Welcome back, this is Monger, and I, am James Mercado, tonight we are joined by reality TV star and icon, Patrick Templer,” he says, as the camera angle changes to include another man, his pecks dance, as he smirks, and nods his head towards James, and then the camera.

“Pleasure to be here broman,” Patrick says smugly, as he flexes his biceps, and puckers his lips several lips as if preparing himself for a kiss.

“Haha, yes, broman indeed,” James says awkwardly with a laugh, before adjusting himself in his seat once more, furrowing his brow, and leaning in towards Patrick. “Now, Patrick, if you don’t mind, I’d like to start off tonight, with something most people out there, in TV land, don’t know about you, about the real you, away from the spotlight of the cameras,” he says.

Patrick leans back in the chair and rubs one of his massive hands against his chin, tightening his lips together and pressing them against his nose, “James, bro, this, this has totally caught me off guard mate, I came here to talk about my new movie, not what I, Patrick Templer does outiside of my stardom,” he says, before turning swiftly back towards James, smiling for a moment, then quickly, dropping the trademark smile for a frown.

“Ummm, okay, yes, well, of course we’ll talk about the movie, but, I want to talk about all the causes you’ve been a part of in the last few months, because, when I saw the list, I couldn’t help but be mystified, I never knew you were so active in so many fields.”

Patrick shines his pearly white teeth into more with a broad smile, “I came from working class, my parents, worked hard to pay for my schooling, my degrees, my first car and home, and, well, I see so much out there, that I could do to make the word better, that I just want to get out there and do it, so, that’s where you’ll find me, when I’m not working on some multimillion dollar movie, in the trenches, helping those when need it.”

“Wow, that’s just extraordinary,” James says, as he smiles broadly. “Well Patrick, after hearing from you all about what you’ve done with your game, we took the time to contact several of the charities you’ve listed on your cv, and we’ve brought along a few of the workers, to share their stories about you,” he says, Patrick’s smile drops, and his face goes white as the blood drains out. “Are you okay, broman?” James asks.

    Day 272 – Reflex – Short Story

They stand there, the two of them, both poised ready to strike the other, their eyes locked, frozen in time.

“Fascinating,” a woman says, as she walks out of the shadows, looking over the two statue like men. “What did you call it again, staggering?”

“Yes, staggering, when time locks in on itself, and creates a moment frozen, like a statue of sorts, we can, interact, look, touch, even, deface, but, we cannot, unfreeze, that, my dear, is something only time controls,” a man’s voices says through the headset she wears.

“You mean they can return to normal?”

    “Yes, and no.”

“That’s not an answer,” she says as she waves her hands in front of the men’s eyes, half expecting one or both of them to blink.

“It’s the answer you want, one case is recorded of the individuals coming unstuck, but time wasn’t going to let them escape easily and within moments, seconds even, time was sucked from them, and they aged years in minutes, until they were both husks, aged beyond their years, but not before the fall out of their resurrection killed everyone within a hundred miles.”

“How many times have you witnessed these occurrences?”

“We only have four recorded instances of this phenomenon, but, we suspect it’s taken place more times than that, archive records suggest another twelve instances have occurred, but, there’s no real data, or for that matter proof of these existing,” he replies.

“Well, it certainly is amazing to say th….” She stops in her tracks as she feels an electric pulse rip through her and then, out of the corner of her eye, she sees one of the statue’s blink.

“Below, it runs, in the depths, waiting for a new victim, waiting, for its next feast, but, we will not allow it, we, WE WILL NOT IGNORE IT, WE WILL STRIKE, AND, WE WILL KILL IT!” The wild eyed preacher yells, throwing his hands in the air, as thunder cracks behind him, followed moments later by a bolt of lightning.

“Isn’t it supposed to be bolt first?” one of the men huddled within the small crowd of people who stand in front of the crazy sage says to another standing beside him.

“Nah, you’re wrong, it’s always thunder first, then lightning,” the other replies.

“Are you sure? I thought you start counting once you see the lightning and then, when the thunder comes, you have an idea how close it is, short space of time, close the storm is.”

“Nah, your right, sorta, but it’s the thunder, and then you count, and when you see the lightning, that’s when you know how close it is.”

They look back toward the preacher, as he continues his insane ramblings, “And then we will strike the beast, and we will take its heart and feast upon it, taking in its darkness and making it into LIGHT!” He yells down towards the crowd, they scream back at him in agreement.

“I think it’s thunder first,” the first man says back to the other.

“Dude, seriously, face facts, you’re wrong, we both saw it, we both heard it, right above us, it’s thunder, then lightning.”

“Nah man, it’s wrong, it’s, it’s, it’s just wrong man,” he says, thrusting his hand into the air, waving it about like a child desperate for a toilet break. “EXCUSE ME!” He yells out, the crowd falls silent and the preacher looks down upon him.

“What is it my sheep? What words do you wish to share with us?”

“No words oh mighty one, but, I do have a question,” he replies.

The preacher smiles, “Then ask it, and I will answer it, for the lords words flow through my lips.”

“Fantastic, now, is it thunder first, or lightning?” He asks, the preachers face drops of all emotion, and his eyes glaze over in a stupor, as he tries to fathom the question.

“Simplistic little fucker, aren’t you?” She says, looking down at the quivering, bloody man who crouches at her feet.

    “P-P-Please, Fiona, I meant no harm, I am but….”

“YOU ARE BUT NOTHING!” Fiona yells, cutting him off as she drives a boot to the side of his head, knocking him over onto his side. “When this world fell, I was the one who raised you up, when death took your loved ones, I was the one who comforted you, when you had desires, I was the one who fulfilled them, and now, after all that I have done, you, you chose him over me?”

“I-I-I,” he licks his dry, cracked lips, hoping to wet them with the blood that runs from a gash in the side of his mouth, and down the back of his throat, he swallows, tasting the saltiness. “I never chose him over you, you did, you pushed me away,” he says as he forces himself to his knees, and kneels in front of her. “You became so obsessed with making this world yours, obsessed with doing what you thought I wanted done, but you never stopped and asked, you never thought all I ever wanted was just you, with me, by my side, enjoying each other. I never wanted this, I never wanted anything but you,” he says softly, her body relaxes, and she looks down upon him, the hate that was in her eyes now gone, replaced by sadness, she feels her eyes begin to well up with tears, and she looks away, clutching herself.

    “Go,” she says.

“I’m sorry,” he says as he sits there, still staring up at her.

She looks down at him, her face twisted with anger, “GO NOW!” She screams, “GO NOW, BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND!”

He scrambles to his feet, looking over to her one last time before staggering away into the darkness, once he is gone she falls to her knees and screams in anger, as tears run down her face.

“YOU DARE CHALLENGE ME!” He yells at the fallen man, his fists shaking with anger.

“P-P-Please Lord Wilton, I-I-I-I, I meant no disrespect, there was no challenge, I was just, well, I was just disappointed in myself, as you are, I never meant anything else, and definitely not disrespect,” He mutters, as his clutches his stomach.

“But you did, you did Chance, and, in doing that, you showed the others how you can not be trusted, you are not one of us, for if you were, you would not hold bitterness towards me, the one who saved you,” Wilton hisses as he looks up, over the group, and holds his arms in the air. “Am I not the one who saved you? Am I not the one who showed you the light? Am I not the one you worship with all that you are?”

“YES MY LORD!” They all call out in union.

“Then, show me your faith, take Chance, and remove him, from life,” he says.

    “NO, PLEASE! NO!” Chance yells.

“The time is over for begging child, today, you face your tomorrow,” he says, with a smile as they drag Chance from the room, screaming. “TODAY, IS YOUR TOMORROW, EMBRACE IT CHANCE, EMBRACE TOMORROW!” The door closes and Chance’s cries are muffled, Wilton turns to his followers who remain. “Now, let us continue, for, my disappointment is still not quenched!”

    Day 268 – Lollipop – Short Story

Spin me round, she said, show me heaven, she added, this night was going to be a whole new ball game to what I’ve experienced in the past, I knew that, but, what I didn’t know, what I failed to realise, is all these words she used, all this feeling she’d woven through every word that left her lips, were deliberate, were, precise, and held my life at her whim.

Of course, I had no idea of this, I didn’t realise she was so strong, so, important to everything, I just thought she was a nut job, so crazy bitch that escaped getting locked away because, well, no one cared enough to lock her up.

We hooked up a few times over the summer, I was bored, and she looked good underneath me, which always make things seem so much better. When school went back, she wanted to keep seeing me, and I, well I had fresh meat to keep me interested, so, I told her the hard truth, every honest word of it. I may be a sleazy, disgusting, perverted guy, but I’m honest.

She wasn’t happy, real pissed, more than I expected her to be, and that’s when she said it, words that sealed my fate for the rest of term.

It’s not normal, I should see someone before it falls off on its own, because, that’s what happens. Then she told me not to worry, because I wear enough girls clothes at home, I’ll be able to make the transition over with little fuss.

I stood there as everyone started laughing, and all I could think about was, could that really happen?

“Well, it wasn’t terrible, I just don’t know what you’re trying to achieve through all this?” She says, as she tightens her lips together, and raises an eyebrow, trying to do her best thinking impression.

“What? You know exactly what I’m trying to do, hell, you’re in the same boat, right? I mean, I’m not doing this alone, we agreed it was together, or not at all, so don’t you try to back out on me now, because it…”

She beings to giggle, as she flops onto the bed on her back, “God, you’re so easy,” she says.

“Cut it out Mary, I’m already nervous enough, don’t make me any more, or I swear, I’ll throw up, or something worse.”

She laughs loudly, “Something worse? What could be worse than throwing up?”

“I don’t know, but if you keep going on like this, I’m sure we’re going ot find out,” he says, his cheeks now bright red, and a furious sweat running down his brow.

“Okay, okay, I promise, no more kidding around, I’m going to be miss professional from here on in,” she says, holding one hand up in the air, and the other pressing firmly in the center of her chest.

“Thank you,” he says, as he turns back to the mirror, and clears his throat once more, she leaps to her feet, and wraps her arms around him, and kisses him on the cheek.

“you’re welcome lover boy, but, we’ve got to be going, timing is important with this, you know that,” she says as she grabs a backpack from the floor and reaches inside, pulling out a large , black handled blade, then looks up at him. “Should I take the black or the brown handled one?” she asks.

    “Does it matter?”

“Of course it does, I want to look coordinated when we do this,” she says with a wicked grin.

    Day 264 – Potion Twenty-Six – Short Story

“I want to start this story out, with one important fact, one fact that will ensure as you hear this, as you take all this in, you will know, that none of this was my fault. You may, at times think, maybe I had something to do with it all, but I can assure you, for the sake of any future arguments, I, Tim Malone, did not have, or ever did have, any underlying, self absorbed intentions, other than to ensure a fair and just outcome was reached so that everyone involved would benefit,” He says, as he stares down the camera lens, he tucks a finger down between the collar of his shirt and his throat, and pulls it lose.

He clears his throat, takes a mouthful of water from a glass that he holds nervously in his hands, and smiles, “Two days ago was when it started, or ended, I’m not sure anymore what you would call it, either both, or whatever, but two days ago was when Trevor Malduver unsuccessfully attempted to free what he thought were refugees from a government holding centre, somewhere in the arse end of the city. Stupid fucker didn’t realise they were locked away for a reason, ” he says, as he reaches up to his collar again, and pulls on it once more, this time  unbuttoning the top of the shirt.

“If Trevor had done his homework correctly, he would’ve found out that they were being held for a reason, but he didn’t, and he, well, he freed the infection from it’s chamber, and they ran, spreading their disease to everyone,” he hangs his head and looks down at the floor, he feels the tears well up in his heads, and watches as they drop and slash onto the concrete floor. “T-T-This, this disease took my family from me, as I’m sure it has to many of you out there, but unlike you, I don’t sit waiting, hoping, for the government to find a cure, hoping that they can save my family,” he says, as he looks up at the camera once more, his eyes red, his skin puffy.

All emotion drops from his face, and he stares blankly into the camera, “There is no cure, there is no saving those infected, the only way to survive is to kill, to run, and if you don’t, if you can’t do that, then, the best this to do, is, kill yourself,” he says as he raises a revolver to the side of his head. “My name is Doctor Steven Templeton, I created this virus, I built this weapon, this killing machine, and, it is, unstoppable,” he says as he pulls the trigger, removing half his head.

“Shitting myself if you want me to be honest,” he says, the older man laughs.

“It’s going to be like that for the first few times, but, you’ve got talent, and all you need to do is hold it together, out there, and slowly, you’ll becoming better, and the people, well, they’ll see it too, and, then, nothing can stop you from climbing the tree but yourself.”

He bites down onto his bottom lip nervelessly, as his eyes dart to the ground, then back up at him, he feels his fingernails dig into his calves, and clears his throat. “I-I-Is it really that easy?”

“Sure, why not,” he replies, shrugging his shoulders.

“Why do so many fail then? Why are there so many who wanna be great, but only a few who mange it, if it’s so easy?”

The older man laughs again, “I never said it was easy, I said it all relies on skill, determination, follow through, drive, all that shit, you’ve got to wanna be the man, to be the man, you can go out there then times a week, thinking you’re the man, not giving a shit about everything else, and just doing the best god damn thing you can do, and honestly, you won’t make it,” He says, as he gets to his feet and stretches his tired, old muscles. “But, if you go out there, and you work hard, you work with everyone else, you do what is asked, and you concentrate on getting better, getting confident, and, getting the other guys behind you, then, you’ll knock the roof off, trust me on that.”

“So, what? You’re saying be part of a team, be out there for everyone, and not just for myself?”

“Yeah kid, that’s sort of it,” He says with a smile as the door to the room opens and a sweaty man pokes his head in.

“You boys are up, the kid ready?” He asks the older man.

He looks over to the younger man, and then over to the man at the door and smiles, “Yeah, the kids ready to have his moment in the sun.”

Day 262 – Past Gliders – Short Story

The darkness save no man or woman, it allows neither a reprieve, it only wants their lives, well, that’s how it seems to me anyway.

When it first appeared, the news stations reported it to be some unknown act of nature, they of course, were wrong, in every way.

His name was Marcus, he was, what you would call, a nerd. You know, awkward, clumsy, brilliant, all rolled into an unflattering package riddled with bad breath, excessive sweats and a high pitched vocal setting, basically Marcus ticked every classic nerd stereotype, ever made.

Anyway, Marcus was the reason the darkness started to swallow everything, he’d been working on some assignment for the research university he worked for, that was trying to decipher some ancient rune stone that was found on the dark side of the moon, I know, seriously, they found a stone with a ancient message on it, on the moon, and no one raised an eyebrow, all too late they realised that once they deciphered the coding, it set a chain of events in place that would bring this hunger to our home world, a hunger that wanted nothing more than to feast upon everyone of us.

Now, as the days count down, and the darkness spreads, I wonder, when will my turn be. When will I pay for my role in all of this, or, am I curse to see the end, to see how my intellect, which I once thought was vast, unrivaled, be reduced, to that of the destroyer of my species…

“DON’T FUCKING LECTURE ME SALLY!” He yells, tightening his hands into fists, his teeth grind against each other, and he feels one of his back molars crack under the pressure. “You wasn’t there, you didn’t see what I saw, you didn’t have orders to follow, if I knew for sure he was responsible, I would’ve put more than one in his head. But it wasn’t my choice, I was just a hired gun, I did what I was asked to do, and I did it, not like you, you knew what he was like all along, you knew he was rotten, you could’ve done more to stop him, made sure he was taken care of,” he says, her cheeks go red, and she bows her head.

“What? You thought you could save him?” He says, then lets out a laugh. “Some people can’t change, no matter what you hope, no matter what you do, some people are just too far, and Garret is one of those people, had you’ve let them know what he was fully capable off, what they were really going up against, we wouldn’t be standing here, looking down at these mutilated carcasses, we’d be somewhere else, having nothing to do with each other. I just honestly don’t understand why you kept that sort of inf….” His words comes to a stop, and his eyes shimmer, as if something leaves them, and then, falls forward, a knife sticking from the back of his head.

    sticking me to myself,

    keeping me from you,

    wrapped in sticky tape,

    rapped in sticky glue,

    stuck to myself,

    kept way from you,

    sticky icky tape,

    sticky icky glue,

    wrapping around me,

    keeping me away from you,

    sticky icky tape,

    sticky icky glue,

    twisting,

    turning around me,

    keeping me stuck together,

keeping me stuck away from you.

    Day 259 – Stolen – Short Story

“How many times has it been since your father died, that you’ve found yourself here, in my arms?” She says softly, as she runs a hand through his hair.

He presses himself up against her, their naked body’s squish together, sweat, saliva and other bodily juices coat their flesh. “Too many times to count,” he says as they kiss, she bites down into his bottom lip, piercing the fleshs, and he lets out a yelp, as he pulls away, pressing a hand to him mouth.

“Careful for christ sake!” He says, she smiles wickedly.

“Come on Coleman, it’s a bit late for that isn’t it, we pasted the pleasure and pain shit ages ago,” she says.

“Pleasure and pain shit? What the fuck are you going on about? This has all been about thrusting our naked bodies together, smashing out an orgasam, then going back to our lives, not taking chunks out of eac….” He doesn’t get to finish his sentence as she drives a hard left hook into his face, knocking him to the floor, she dives upon him and drives another and then a right, and then, grabs him by the cock and squeezes it.

“Don’t be shy all of a sudden, you know how I like it,” she says, as she licks his face, he drives his head into her nose, smashing it across her face, blood pours instantly from it, as she reels back in pain, he shoves her off him and drives a boot into her stomach, and let’s out several long, desperate breaths as he stands over her motionless form.

“Fucking bitch, what the fucking hell is wrong with you?” He says as he grabs her by the hair and pulls her to her feet, they lock eyes for a few moments, his, filled with rage and confusion, while hers, are filled with a calmness, and in that moment, he realises, all too late, that sometimes, when you ask for something so wrong, it will end up bring that which devours you, and as she slips out of his wreaking grip, she drives a open hand into his throat, he gasps for air, as a knee smashes into his groin and he falls helplessly towards the floor, into unconsciousness.

He doesn’t know how long he was out when he finally comes to, but the bindings that hold him down, onto the bed feel as if they are cutting into his flesh, his eyes search the room frantically, only, to see her standing, waiting.

“Welcome back,” she says with a smile.

    The End

  • Day 259 – Pale – Wrapped In Words

Day 259 – Pale – Wrapped In Words

    Plastic,

    wrapped around my body,

    pressing against my flesh,

    pressing against my skin,

    keeping me locked within,

    keeping hold of my sin,

    you thrust it in,

    you pull it out,

    you laugh,

    you smile,

    you joke about,

    I’m trapped within,

    I’d scream and shout,

but you thought of that one,

that’s why you cut my tongue out,

    my precious one,

    my secret love,

    I shouldn’t’ve trusted you,

    I should’ve know better,

    I should’ve seen this coming,

    you fucking psycho cunt,

    I should’ve seen this coming,

    I should’ve seen you,

    through pale eyes,

    eyes so cloudy,

    eyes,

    so,

    cold.

Day 258 – Something – Wrapped In Words

    Something sweet,

    something fun,

    something chewy,

    something sinful,

    something bleak,

    something you can’t run from,

    something that’ll make you weep,

    something dark,

    something rotten,

    something deep,

    something bold,

    something new,

    something old,

    something broken,

    something cold,

    something gripping you’re throat,

    something taking you’re soul,

    something choking you,

something burying you in this hole,

    something me,

    something you,

    something something,

    something,

    BOO!
