I entered a short story competition that required me to write a 100 word short story in 24 hours. The story needed to meet three things, a genre (Sci-Fi), an event (Seeing a rainbow) and to use a certain word (Micro). It took me a while to find the right idea and to get it to work in a way I was happy with. But like the last time I entered something similar, I enjoyed the desire to find the story that sparked the right way for me. So, for the sake of creativity, here is 1 of the 24 rejected stories in a 100 word format..
As the window closes Luke’s eyes widen once more, so he can capture the completeness of the rainbow for one final time. With an otherworldly hiss, darkness encompasses all that surrounds the small rag tag group, followed by a burst of light and then they are standing on the shores of an almost barren wasteland littered with decomposing bodies.
“T-T-This can’t b-be Morrow, c-c-can it?” Cassandra asks through breathless words.
Luke looks up into the sky and swallows a staggered breath that feels like a thousand razor blades, then looks over to the others with dread written across his face.
