    Day 176 – Puzzle – 50 Word Story Expanded

“It was a cold night, like tonight, that I fist met him, underneath the street light on Maple and Wearne. He seemed like a normal man, nothing unusual, or strange about him. Of course, that was until we started talking, then I realised how truly odd he was, and his face, it was scarred, and sewn, like pieces from different jigsaw’s had been squeezed together, even though they didn’t fit. It was the most impossible conversation that happened on the most improbable night, you see, only a fraction of an hour before, I’d narrowly avoided being run down by a car, and then, as I was being looked over by the paramedics, your mother called me, she’d gone into early labour with you and was being rushed to Saint Mary’s. I quickly excused myself, much to the paramedics dismay, and I jumped into a taxi, telling the balding fellow who was driving to head straight for the hospital. Had I stayed with the paramedics, I’m not sure what would’ve happened, but, going with the taxi, certainly changed how I look at the world,” he says, looking down at the little girl, who sits snuggled up beside him on the couch.

“Tell me Daddy? Please,” she says, he looks down at his watch, and then back to her and smiles.

“It’s almost past your bed time,” he says with a smile.

“Please Daddy, tell me what happened, please!”

“Okay, okay, I’ll tell you the important parts, the rest can wait another night.”

“Thank you daddy, thank you,” she says, snuggling into him, and the couch deeper.

    “Where was I?”

“The taxi drive, the balding one!”

“That’s right, his name was Daniel, he’d immigrated from Serbia with his wife and three children, I was surprised to find out he was a professor of science, but, was hoping to start a new life here, a different life, one, away from his previous. He talked a lot, far longer than he should’ve, so when he went dead silent, I knew something was wrong. I asked him how long it was until we reached the hospital, that’s when he admitted he was lost, now remember, this was before iPhones and wireless internet, so, it wasn’t as easy as it is now to find your way out of such a messy situation. Anyway, that’s when we came to the corner of Maple and Wearne, he was standing underneath the street light, or beside it, or close enough that I spotted him, but really, all you need to know, was, that he was there. I waved him over and asked where we were, and how to get to Saint Mary’s hospital. Like I said, at first he seemed normal, his voice was soft, his eyes, what I could see, were gentle, he placed a hand on the window of the car, and I noticed how rough, how dirty they looked, but I ignored it. He was helping me out of a sticky situation, and it wasn’t my place to judge, I’d done many things in my life up to that point that I’m not proud of, so, why judge someone else? Anyway, after directing us out of the mess we were in, I thanked him and as Daniel started up the engine again, he asked a question. And that’s when I saw him in the street lights glow, for the first time that night, his face, was, well, it was like I said before, scarred, sewn, like pieces of a jigsaw. His face, was made up of about thirteen or fourteen different pieces, in different stages of decay. He was, as I found out later, diagnosed with a rare fleash eating disease, that, through some strange abnormality, left him without skin of his own, and, he had, for most of his life, kept indoors, shielded from the outside world. But a few months ago his doctors had found a way of treating his condition, but it required people, living, breathing people, to donate their skin, with the idea that it would be sewn over his flesh, the unfortunate thing was, it wasn’t permanent, and his body kept rejecting the skin. So, he was, a living jigsaw, as they tried to find a skin, that his body wouldn’t reject…”

“Show me Daddy! I want to see!” she says quickly, interrupting his story.

He smiles and gets up from the couch and pulls his jumper up, revealing dozens of scars across his back, in the shape, of jigsaw pieces.

    Day 176 – Lines – Whispered Words

In a straight line I run,

    towards what must be done,

    towards what must come,

    I want it,

    I feel it,

    I see it,

    but I don’t need it,

    I can’t touch it,

    I won’t be it,

    I spit,

    and I rip,

    and I groan,

    the closer I get,

    I am loosing control,.

    focus is lost,

    perpetual darkness holds me,

    deceiving my own mind,

into thinking I’m the sane one,

    to thinking I am…

    Faded Flesh

    Time is reset,

    as we’re made to relive,

    the story again,

    over and over,

    remade,

    we will fight,

    The Roundhead it was called,

I carried it like an expecting mother,

    that this simple little story,

    would take, my fucking  soul.

    Day 164 – Boxindul – 50 Word Story Expanded

“I guess you want me to start at the beginning?”

“Is that where you want to start?”

“Not really, but I think you need to know something, an overview, so you can see how we ended up here.”

“Well, then tell me, how did it all start?” He asks, leaning back in his seat.

    “When Jenny found the box.”

    “Where did she find it?”

“It was in her locker, just sitting there.”

“So, someone had unlocked her locker, somehow, placed this box in and then locked it again, is that about right?”

“That’s what she said, and before you ask, yes, I believed what she said, I was with her most of the day, all day once we got there, and if it was in there in the morning, she would’ve said something, so, it had to’ve happened then.”

“Okay, so, what happened next, after she found the box?”

“Well, we didn’t know what to do, we thought maybe it could’ve been a bomb or something worse, so, we left it there until we had time to think.”

“So, you thought about it and then what? You decided you should just open it?”

“Well, yeah, I mean, Jenny had no enemies, everyone loved her, and I honestly, wouldn’t think anyone would target her to kill everyone else.”

“So, tell me, what happened after you opened the box?”

“There was nothing inside it, it was empty, or at least, that’s what we thought at first, it looked that way, that changed when she threw it in the bin and then some weird light started going off. We looked in and the box seemed different, like it was, I don’t know, it’s going to sound crazy if I say it out loud.”

“Try me, you’d be surprised what I believe.”

“Well,” he says leaning across the table. “Well, it seemed alive.”

    “What, the box?”

“Yeah, it was, it was strange, like it was actually a living, breathing thing, see,” he says, collapsing into his chair. “It sounds nuts, I mean, how could it be?”

    “What happened next?”

“Well, we fished it out of the bin and decided to get it to Mister Winters, our science teacher, he’s pretty cool, and, well, we thought if anyone had a chance at knowing what it was, it was Mister Winters.”

“But, everything didn’t go to plan did it?”

“Well, of course not, I mean, that’s why you’re here right?”

“Sort of, we’re here to determine what the next manoeuvre will be. Now, what happened to Jenny?”

“As soon as Mister Winters saw the box he wet himself, like he knew what it was, Jenny saw her chance, so she tried to get the fuck out of dodge, that’s when the box grew those teeth, and, well, next thing I know, she’s missing a chunk of flesh from her throat, and convulsing on the ground in front of me, choking on her own blood.”

“So what, you just stood back and watched while this happened?”

“I had no choice, I was holding the fucking thing, and it wouldn’t let me do anything.”

    “Right, then what happened?”

“Well, that’s when Mister Winters started going on about some cursed box thing, and told me all the stories that were going around school about him were true, he was, a homosexual wizard, and the box, was a creature called a Boxindul. He said the Boxindul needed to be banished before it hurt anyone else, so he started mumbling something I couldn’t understand, waved his wand around, I swear I didn’t see him pull it from anywhere, and, as he brought it down, to finish the spell, this Boxindul thing launched itself from my hands and attacked him, there was nothing I could do, he died a hero, saved us all I bet.” he says, looking up at him, tears in his eyes.

“Okay, I think, you’ve answered all the questions we have at this stage,” he says, as he slowly gets up from his seat.

    “So, I’m good to go?”

He sucks in a quick breath through clenched teeth and screws his face up, “I think, there might be a problem with that.”

“What? Why? I’ve told you everything, I swear!”

“I know you have, It’s just that the video footage we have, shows us a different account of what happened. One that doesn’t involve this Boxindul, just you, and the two victims.”

SlasherMonster Fun – Ripped – 50 Word Story Expanded

I had the fortune of being presented with the opportunity to take part in a bit of fun during the October season over at SlasherMonster Magazine, the idea was to take a short, 50 word story, expand it, and SlasherMonster would post it during the month.

Okay, sounds like something I’ve been doing here every week, so what’s the catch? You have to expand a 50 word story that wasn’t yours! Bang, mind blown. I had fun with this, more fun than I normally do, which is hard to top, because, lets face it, I enjoy spreading the flesh with a sharp blade, and playing with your gizzards at the best of time.  So, without going on anymore, the second short that I had the pleasure to be part of is up, waiting for your eyes, just follow the below links.

For Poet Rummager’s (Rose Perez) original 50 Word Story, venture over to HERE.

Then, once you have taken it inside, and are curious to see where I took this deeply dark, disturbing tale, head over to SlasherMonster HERE, and read my expanded version.

Also, if you didn’t get a chance to look at the original story I had the enjoying chance to expand, you can follow the links below. Or just stay on SlasherMonster’s blog and take a look around at the other participants, and their dark, demented tales.

Day 163 – The Hunt – 50 Word Story Expanded

He looks up, his heart beating furiously in his chest, taking a moment to catch his breath, then, he smiles, “As many times as it takes us, until we track him down, that’s how long.”

“It’ll just keep moving, six months Cole, six months and we’re no closer than we were when we started all this shit!”

“Bullshit, we’re getting close, the fuckers panicking, can’t you sense it?”

“All I see is more innocent lives lost, that’s it, we’re not getting closer, we’re doing shit all, cleaning up his mess.”

“You’re wrong Wesley, we’re close, closer than we’ve ever been before,” he says as he wipes the knife’s blade on his trousers and slides it in a pouch dangling from the side of his belt. “You see, he’s choosing random victims now, he doesn’t have the time to select his prey like he did before, so we’re fucking with his mojo, and soon, we’re going to be standing in front of him, then, well, then we’ll gut the son of a bitch.”

“What if you’re wrong? What if he’s playing with us, baiting us into a trap?”

“He’s not smart enough, you’ll see, we’ve got him on the run, you can take my word on that one,” he says as he gets to his feet, wiping his blood drenched hands on the side of his pants. “Besides, even if he was, he’d be so weak, we’d be able to overpower him fairly quickly.”

“You seem sure of yourself?” A voice says from the darkness of the street beyond.

They both turn quickly, as a man walks out of the darkness, he smiles and nods his head towards both of them and then, looks over at the torn, bloody, dismembered body of the young girl that lies on the ground before them.

“Such a pity, she was, such a sweet girl,” he says, turning his attention back to Cole and Wesley.

“Is it game time already?” Cole says, gritting his teeth, and pulling his knife from its pouch once again.

    “Game time? I don’t follow?”

But, Cole does not reply with words, as he charges at the man, swinging his knife viciously out in front of him, the man in black moves quickly, easily out of harm’s way, gripping Cole by the throat and pulling it back powerfully, a popping sound can be heard, and he goes limp, crashing to the ground in a heap. Where he stays, silently, void of life. The man looks up at Wesley, who stands, frozen in place, sweat pouring from his forehead.

“Hello Wesley, it’s been some time since we stood before one another, how’ve you been?”

    “Fuck you!”

“Fuck you, really? Is that how it’s going to be? Like we’re enemies and not, brothers?”

“You fucking killed Cole, what do you expect me say, he was my friend.”

“Wesley, we don’t have time from friends, you know that, after all we..”

“Fuck you Porter, fuck you and all you’re little fucking children. I’ve been, we’ve been cleaning up your shit for the last two weeks, Cole and I, we had something. A bond, one that I didn’t have to fucking manipulate him for, and you just show up, doing you’re fucking self-centred shit, like you always do, and kill him, without checking first. He was marked, with my mark, you piece of shit.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I-I-I-I, I didn’t realise you two were that close.”

“Of course you wouldn’t, because you never pay attention to anyone else except yourself, so why don’t you just go and get in the car, Daddy’s going to be pissed when we get home.”

“But I don’t want to go home, I wan….” He doesn’t get a chance to finish as Wesley is upon him and slaps him across the face.

“I said, get in the car, this is over.”
