    Day 161 – Discussion – 50 Word Story Expanded

He steps out into the night air and takes a deep, long drag on his cigarette, playfully blowing the smoke into rings as he lets the breath out, some people can smoke for their whole life and never master the technique, so he always proudly likes to display the skill that took him many countless hours to achieve, none of them, wasted, as far as he’s concerned.

“One day, those things will kill you, you realise?” a voice hisses from the darkness.

“What? Does it make you jealous?”

“Far from it, the word I would use is curious, more than jealous.”

    “Why curious?”

“It’s a simple curiosity, you see, you risk your life, fighting against so many unknown entities, defending your friends, lovers, and from time to time, enemies, from the things that lurk in the darkest places mankind turns a blind eye too. Yet, for all that bravado and passion, you suck those things into you, those killers. It just seems humorous that someone such as you will eventually die in a hospital bed, succumbing to your own bodies defenses, that is why I use curious, rather, than jealous.”

“I’m sure you didn’t come here out of concern for my health,” he says as he flicks the cigarette out into the darkness, it lands at his feet.

“Bravo, do you feel pleased with yourself?”

“Don’t waste any more of my time, what do you want?”

“I want what I always want, I want everything, I want it all, and this time, I want to offer you a deal you cannot refuse.”

“Go away, don’t try to convince me of some great plan that you have, that’ll not only make you super rich, and powerful, but will also give me all the things I desire, I need, when I can get all those things myself, if I really wanted to.”

“Then why haven’t you? I’ll tell you why, it’s because you’re a goody two shoes, and you need to take a step back and embrace what you were born to be.”

“And what exactly was I born to be?”

“A mother fucking king of course, not some sappy hero, who saves the day and the people cheer for, but never give back to. Join me and I’ll give you what they should be giving you, riches, respect, loyalty and, above all else, utter servitude.”

“It’s not going to happen, so you’ve wasted your time coming all the way out here and asking,” he says as he turns back towards the doorway and takes a step in.

“Don’t you want what should be yours? You shouldn’t have to want like a normal man, you should take, like you can, like you were born to do. Together, this world would be ours and no one, not even the darker, so called heroes could stop us. I know, I’ve seen it, I know how it all goes down, and together, we rule.”

He looks over his shoulder and smiles, “I’ve seen it too, and we do indeed rule, for a long time too. But eventually, one day, something happens, I don’t know how, but I guess that’s why it happens, how it happens. But, that’s not important, what is, is sometime, well after we’ve ruled this world together, I’ll remember something, something from my past, something from this conversation, the part where I swore what I’d do to you if this ever came about, and then, I’ll rip your head from your body…”

  • Day 160 – Tick Tock – YouChallenge Short Story

Day 160 – Tick Tock – YouChallenge Short Story

“Are you sure you’re doing it right?” She says as she forces herself up, onto her tippy toes and peers over his shoulder, towards the open key pad, he glances at her and rolls his eyes.

“How the hell should I know, I’ve never done anything like this before, I’m a geneticist, not an electrician.”

“Don’t get cranky at me, I was just asking,” she says as she takes a step back, holding her hands in the air.

“I’m not cranky,” he says as he turns back to the keypad, he feels a sudden sting in his eyes, and wipes the cascading sweat from his face, that is pouring down from his forehead. “I’m concentrating that’s all.”

“Sure, that’s what you’re doing, concentrating.”

“And what’s that supposed to mean?” He says as he turns back around to her.

“It means, mister high and mighty, that you’ve been concentrating for a good forty-five minutes and so far you’ve managed to do nothing. We’re still trapped in this room, and, to make matters worse, I think the air vents aren’t working, so, we’re more than likely running out of oxygen, because you broke your fucking card,” she says as she shoves him aggressively.

“For your information, Sherlock Fucking Holmes, I wasn’t the one who broke the card, it was Dulles, you remember him? The guy who you’re little lab rats down stairs took a chunk out of, when all this shit started. Anyway, where the fuck is your card? Surly you, being the intelligent one amongst us poor so……” Suddenly, he falls silent, and stands there, staring at her, unable to talk, unable to do anything.

“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?” She says with a smile as she places the cap on the needle and places it back into her lab coat. “Just a little surprise I was saving for you,” she says as she gives him a gentle push to the side, one that sends him crashing to the floor in a heap. His eyes stare at her, panicked, terrified. “I bet it hurts?” She says as she kneels down beside him. “No one talks to me like that, especially not some snotty nosed wanna be, never will be, like you. That’s because scum deserves to rot with its own, and you, you’re scum. I can see by the terrified look in your eyes you don’t know what I’m talking about, well, what about how you attempted to sabotage my work by going to Jones? How’s that for reason enough, pin dick,” she says gets to her feet, and drives a boot down, into his groin. “You can’t do much, but I know, you can feel pain, and there’s going to be a lot going on before it’s over for you,” she says as she quickly walks over to the keypad, reaches into a pocket, and pulls out a undamaged security card, she glances over to him again, and smiles. “I know, I had my card the whole time, who would’ve known,” she says as she swipes it, and the door, does nothing, she tries the card again, and again, but still nothing. She looks at him and can see in his eyes, she looks up as the door opposite slides open, and Dulles, followed by several other, decaying, putrid, animated corpses, stagger into the room, towards her.

    END

The challenge was, ‘the oxygen is sucked from the room…’

  • Day 149 Daily Prompt – Border – 50 Word Story Expanded

Day 149 Daily Prompt – Border – 50 Word Story Expanded

“It’s entiely possible, I mean, at this stage, anything is,” she says, running her hand down the frame of the mirror.

“At this stage? We’re not in one of your supernatural horror movies Shelley, this is the real world, shit like this just doesn’t happen.”

She turns to him and smiles, “Why is it suddenly, my supernatural horror movies? You’re the one who introduced me to The Evil Dead and Phantasam.”

“Years ago, when we were kids, you’re the one who went all science geek over it all, and built this, this fucking thing.”

“The looking glass is not a fucking thing, it’s a doorway to another world, bridging the borders of our world, and the world of…”

“The world of fucking nightmares!” He yells out, she looks at him with  wry smile, he feels a cold shiver run down his spine and looks to the ground, biting his lip nervously.

    “Scared?”

“Of course I am, none of this would’ve happened if it wasn’t for that fucking thing, whatever it did, it fucked everything, and nothing been right since, nothing.”

“It only feed of what you asked it to, you knew that before you hooked yourself up to it.”

“Hey sister, I only did what you asked, your fucking mirror did the rest.”

“Stop it, stop blaming the mirror, it’s what came out of it, out of you, that caused all these killing. When you were hooked up I detected something huge, with enough juice to keep the city running for at least a thousand years, tear through the doorway,” she says, throwing her arms left and right, overly animating herself, he takes a step back, putting his hands in the air.

“Calm the farm, there’s no need to loose your shit.”

“Who’s losing their shit? You’re the one who keeps ignoring the facts. Everything is right here, and the only way to stop it is for you to cross the fuck over, hopefully whatever it is, will ride back with you and then we’ll…”

“You’ll do nothing, I’ll be stuck across there, with whatever it is, and you’ll be safe, that’s the deal. Destroy the mirror, as soon as I’m though, promise me, like we’ve planned!”

“I promised already, I’ll destroy it, even though I know I could fix it, I could save you, I’ll keep my word.”

“Then let’s stop fucking around, before I don’t,” he says as he steps towards the mirror.

“I-I-I’m sorry,” she says softly, tears welling up in her eyes, he reaches out and cups her face in his hand, and smiles.

“Don’t be,” he says, tears run down his cheeks, he takes a deep breath, and step into the mirror. The room vibrates as the realities seals are broken, his world flashes before his eyes, whites, blacks, red and blues, everything falling, disintegrating and then reforming, into something, the same, yet, different. He steps into the dark, grey, otherworld, falling to his knees, his body feels like it’s been twisted, torn, and broken, tears cascade down his face, and, then, he feels it, in the core of his soul, the connection to his world being severed. Ever so slowly he turns, until he sees the cracks in the mirror behind him.

    “Goodgirl,” he says softly.

“How touching,” a voice says from within the room. “Can I vomit?”

“When I stepped through the gate, and I crossed the border into this world, I knew that the killings would stop. But, but I didn’t think, I didn’t expect, that it would be…” He looks up at the shape, hiding in the shadows.

“You didn’t expect it to be you?” She says as she steps from the darkness. “Was that what you were going to say?”

    “Why?”

“Becuase of you, don’t you see that, haven’t you always seen that?”

  • Day 147 – The Roundhead Prelude 10 – Hiding, Inside

Day 147 – The Roundhead Prelude 10 – Hiding, Inside

He stares at the dried blood, splattered against the wall, his eyes slowly follow the trail left behind, up and down, along and around, following the curves of each letter, until he reaches the end. He swallows a dry, coarse mouthful of air, it tears at his throat like a ball of barbed wire, as it slides down, exploding into his lungs. Beads of sweat begins to seep from his forehead run down his face, he places a hand against his chest, feeling each powerful beat of his heart, lost in his own world, desperately, trying to find answers, to solve the riddle before him, a voice breaks the silence and pulls him into the world.

“Seventeenth victim in the last half an hour, three blocks apart, and not one son of a bitch saw anything, the security cameras don’t pick up anyone except the John entering and we’ve got nothing…. Are you even fucking listening to me Mackenzie?” A balding suited detective says to him, he slowly turns and nods.

“Keep going, what about the cameras?” He says softly.

He clears his throat before he continues, “Security camera’s are useless, there’s no footage to show anyone else entering the apartment.”

“That’s a shame, this was the only one with something going for it, the chance, for us to catch a break,” Mackenzie mutters.

“Are you sure you’re okay? You don’t look the best.”

“We’re face some crazed maniac, there’s nowhere else I should be but here.”

The door to the apartment crashes open and a large man burst into the room, “You gotta fucking help me! You gotta save me!” he screams.

“What the fuc….” He stops, his mouth drops open, they all turn, as it’s huge, clawed hands, grip the door frame, and it’s monstrous form, steps through, ripping, tearing, destroying the doorway, like a wrecking ball. It looks around the room, it’s eyes, it’s pools of nothingness, searches each of them, looking into their very soul, until, it comes to a rest on Mackenzie.

“This is my story, I will not be played, I create, you, obey,” it growls, in a low, gravely voice, flickering in and out of focus, like a poorly tuned radio.

“W-W-What?” Mackenzie says, the beast lunches forward, grabbing him by the throat and slams him against the wall. It’s stench wafts at him, tearing at his eyes, stinging, his nose runs, his face feels as if it’s been splashes with acid, it leans in closer, until, shots ring out as the other detective opens fire. The beast, it turns, throwing Mackenzie to the ground, it grabs the detective by his outstretched arms, crushing both his hands, and then rips them from their sockets, he screams, as blood pumps from his torn flesh, but the beast, it grabs his head and twists and he is silent. More shots tear into it’s side, the beast lets out a cry, a scream, a growl of aggression, dominance, power and moves through the room swiftly, until, only it stands, and the room, is bathed in blood. It turns back to find Mackenzie is gone, and looks towards you, as you read these lines, the sudden smell of rotting meat fills your nostrils, your stomach churns, the, you feel it’s breath on the back of your neck, followed by it’s words, “His distractions won’t stop me, for soon you will see, there’s nothing he can do, to stop me from getting to you!”

SlasherMonster Fun – Graveyard Shift – 50 Word Story Expanded

I had the fortune of being presented with the opportunity to take part in a bit of fun during the October season over at SlasherMonster Magazine, the idea was to take a short, 50 word story, expand it, and SlasherMonster would post it during the month.

Okay, sounds like something I’ve been doing here every week, so what’s the catch? You have to expand a 50 word story that wasn’t yours! Bang, mind blown. To say I had fun, would be putting it mildly, in fact, I enjoyed it thoroughly, almost writing more than just the two I needed. But, with this blog, and it’s unique rules and regulations, time, told me differently. So, without going on anymore, the first short is up, and waiting for your eyes, just follow the below links.

If you want to go and read the original version posted on Karina’s blog HERE.

Then, if you’re so inclined, you can go to SlasherMonster and read my expanded version HERE.

    Cheers,

  • Day 146 – Seven – 50 Word Story Expanded

    Day 146 – Seven – 50 Word Story Expanded

Another day, and more inspiration, Yazgar posted another awesome image last night for Inktober and Drawlloween, and, while I was sitting down to write tonight’s YouChallenge story, this happened. So you can pop over to HERE to view the picture, that inspired the following story. And I should also add, congratulations as well, as its his hundredth Daily Doodle since he started his blog a little of three months ago!

“It’s a brilliant idea, and it’ll revolutionise the industry,” he says as he tucks his hands behind his head and leans back in his seat.

“Seriously, I know, you’re mad, but this is like insane. It’s got nothing, absolutely nothing to do with what we’re working towards, we’re scientist Glenn, playing with the very tools that make us who we are, who we could be, not building sideshow freaks, not this. I-I, I can’t let you do it, I won’t!” He says as he launches himself off his seat, and thrusts his tightly clenched fists into the table.

“But we’re not going anywhere Clive, there’s no money coming in, our funding has been ripped away, and those fucks, back in the city are laughing at us, calling us a joke. This, this will show them, it will be magnificent, and from the money we bring in, we’ll fund our work ourselves. Don’t you see, we could become self-sufficient, our own bosses, like we’ve always dreamed about, can’t you see that?”

He stares at his fists, squeezing them tightly, before he looks back at Glenn, his face, not as tense, the scowl, less, his eyes, show no anger, only, contemplation. “I don’t know, it just, well, it just feels, like were selling out, giving them a greater reason to laugh at us. What if, what if it doesn’t work? What if we just end up wasting more valuable time?”

“Look at it, people will come from miles around to see them, they’ll pay what we ask, then, those pieces of shit will beg for us to come back, only because they’ll want to steal what we’ve created. But we won’t, because, we, will be kings!” He says proudly, with a broad grin on his face.

“It’s going to take a lot of work, were going to have to teach them everything.”

“Bah, we’ll code the knowledge into their DNA, we won’t need to teach them a thing, they’ll be as good, no, they’ll be better, than those schmucks in their multi-million dollar shit holes.”

“I-I, I’m still not a hundred percent on board,” he says as he sits back down.

    “But, you’re warming to it?”

“What are we going to call it?”

“I’ve got a couple of ideas,” Glenn says as he pulls a folded up piece of paper from his pocket and hands it to Clive, who, gently unfolds it and pulls a pair of glasses from his shirt pocket. For a few moments he sits there, his face slowly turning redder, and redder with each new line, until, finally, He looks up at Glenn, clearing his throat.

“You can’t be serious, are these really your suggestions?”

“What? You’re kidding me? I thought they were brilliant.”

“Honestly, I think we need something that has presence, strength, marketability, none of these fit that category, in fact, most of them are childish.”

“Steady on there, I’ll have you know, I showed them around the lab and everyone thought they were perfect, hell, the last two, were Sevens suggestions.”

“You know, I can believe that,” he says looking back at the piece of paper, slowly, he begins to laugh, getting louder and more animated as the seconds tick by, until, he has tears streaming from his eyes.

    “What’s so fucking funny?”

“C-C-Catch Of The Day, was S-Seven’s, and s-she’s half o-o-octopus!” He manages to get out, and soon, both men, are crying with laughter, while beyond the glass, three figures stand watching.

“Do you think he likes it?” Seven asks the other two.

“So what, you think it’s him?”

“We’ll know more once we get the fabric carbon tested, but, I think we’ve found him,” he says with a beaming smile. “Point the flashlight over here Mortimer, there seems to be an entrance to another room, obstructed by some of the artifacts.”

    “Another room, are you sure?”

“Yes, yes, I’m almost certain, and I bet you’re thinking the same thing I am, aren’t you?..

  • Day 140 – Sammy – Short Story

    Day 140 – Sammy – Short Story

“Don’t kid around Jason it’s not funny, what if something really happened to Sammy, what would you do then?”

“Well I wouldn’t feel like it was my fault if that’s what you’re saying,” he quickly replies.

“I’m not saying it’d feel like your fault, I’m just saying, how would you feel if something happened to Sammy, while you’re making those silly jokes?”

“Mum, lighten up, Sammy’s fine, we’ve done this our whole life, why say something now?”

“Because you never know what’s going to happen, okay?”

“Okay, god, okay, I’ll watch what I say, if it’ll keep you happy,” he says as he gets up from his seat and quickly makes his way out of the room, down the hall, and into his bed room, where Sammy sits waiting.

    “How is she?”

“Losing it, as you said she would, I should’ve told her.”

“What would that do? It’d only send her even more up the wall, she needs to face it, deal with it. You just have to help, we both do.”

“How the fuck are you going to help?”

“I can, I’m not useless,” Sammy says as he leaps to his feet.

“Don’t get your knickers in a knot, you know what I mean.”

“I know perfectly well what you meant, I’d just prefer not being reminded about it.”

“You can’t run for this, it’s going to catch up eventually, and when it does, she’s going to lose her shit. You know that don’t you?”

“Yeah, that’s why you’ve got to do the ground work for me. You’ve got to get her ready so when it all hits the fan, she’s not that pissed off at me about it.”

“I don’t think she’s going to be pissed off, upset, but not pissed off.”

“She will, once she knows all of it, at first she’ll be upset, but eventually she’ll be angry and I don’t think I can deal with her being angry at me, and neither will she, it’ll ruin her. So you’ve got to be on my side all the way with this one, not just there, like normal.”

“I’ll keep her calm and I’ll make sure she doesn’t get too pissed, but I can’t promise she won’t.”

Sammy stares out of the window and lets out a cold shiver, before turning back to his brother, his lips blue, his skin pale.

    “Are you ready?”

    “I guess I don’t really have a choice do I?”

They hear the phone ring in the kitchen and both stare towards the hallway, waiting, he feels Sammy’s cold hand tightly grip his, and he grips it back.

“JASON!” His mother calls out from the kitchen before letting out a scream of agony, he looks at Sammy, and shrugs his shoulder, smiling awkwardly.

“I love you Sammy,” Jason says as he turns to his brother, fighting back the tears.

“Love you to bro,” Sammy replies, before he disappears, leaving Jason, standing there, alone, tears runs down his cheek. He quickly wipes his face with the sleeve of his jumper and runs out of the room, to his mother’s side.
