Today we’re doing something new, launching the first collection of short stories that once found their home here, on this blog. The thirty-one short stories have been reworked, edited and cleaned up, so they are, what I hope, the best version of themselves they can be, along with a super awesome cover designed by YAZGAR as you can see here.
Included in the collection is a new story, written especially for the collection. I hope if you all have a chance you’ll venture over and have a pursue of the collection, maybe even buy a copy, or, if you’re feeling crazy, you can sign up to the mailing list below, and receive a free copy!
Cheers,
Matt
The Kids Love It
The car comes to a screeching halt, smashing into the side of another, forcing it off the road and down into a ditch, voices cry out, followed by an explosion.
He stands overlooking the carnage, watching with bewildering eyes, his bottom lip quivers, as one of his hands slowly reaches up and grasps his chest. The burning sensation that he had coursing through his body only seconds ago, is now non-existent. But he doesn’t question why, as he knows the reason, for he can see it in his own dead, empty eyes that stare towards him.
“OKAY, THAT’S A WRAP!” He hears yelled a few feet away. Slowly he casts his eyes towards seven men, men he never noticed before, standing, watching, with what looks like cameras, microphones, and other filming equipment.
“H-H-H-Hello?” he says softly.
One of the men looks over to him, nods and smiles, then turns back to packing up his equipment.
“HELLO?” He says again, louder this time.
“Don’t be put off by Klause, he’s one of those artists,” a voice says from behind him, he turns to face a skinny man, mid-thirties, long scraggly hair, holding what looks to be a boom mic…

Worst thing is, through this I’ve discovered how stubborn I am about my writing. I can take criticism, that’s nothing, but when someone suggests major rewrites and a complete overhaul of the style I write in, I just can’t get onboard. In the end, I’ve gone with the shorts under the whole, they’re my stories, written my way.

Word is that mainstream will sterilise the crap out of anything in order to ram it through the sales algorithm. I guess that’s what it takes now, but I’d read authenticity over manufactured any day.

Agreed, I like the weird, the unusual, the odd, that’s why I write it. It’s better to die by your own sword, that by that if someone else who doesn’t care.
