There was a price involved,

when the thing escaped,

some demented riddle,

wrapped in plain sight,

one you couldn’t understand,

that’s because you didn’t know,

it was my fault,

I broke the glass jar that held that thing at bay,

I was the one who set it free,

then watched as it killed everyone we knew,

one by one,

until all that was left were you and I,

that’s when I realised,

for you to live,

I had to die,

It’s a pity,

I’m such a coward…
