Play It Again – Short Story

“It’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s got nothing to do with any of that. It’s about the prophecy. It’s about what we saw. I can’t allow everything we’ve worked for to fail because of you,” Shannon spots with frustration as he launches to his feet.
“What if this is why it all happens?”
“What the fuck are you talking about? What if what is why it all happens?”
“What if you doing this, casting me aside, brandishing me a betrayer of the collective. What if doing all this is what ends with me destroying everything. What if this is why I become Damanogre!” Kevin hisses, slamming a fist into the table before him.
For moments more than those that could be counted on several hands do they stare at each other. Sweat drips down their foreheads in union, until finally Shannon’s fave softens, and a nervous smile makes its way upon his face, “W-W-We allowed that scenario to play out, which is why this is the only solution,” he says as he raises the revolver from his side. “May god have mercy on your soul,” he whispers as his finger slowly presses against the trigger.
“What do you mean you allowed that scenario to play out? Is this just some game to you? Does my life mean nothing!”
“The complete opposite brother, your life means everything. But unfortunately all the scenarios that involve keeping you alive have all run their course. Now all we have left is this,” He says as the bullet explodes from revolvers barrel.
