I entered a short story competition that required me to write a 100 word short story in 24 hours. The story needed to meet three things, a theme (Comedy), a situation (Climbing a Mountain) and a word that needed to be used (Radar). It took me a while to find the right idea, and get it to work in a way I was happy with, but that’s not saying I didn’t enjoy the process, and the stories that didn’t make the cut. So, for the sake of creativity, here is the rejected 100 word stories I wrote..

The Fairfax Confinement
“Wichita was the last place I saw any of them alive, just before it all started.”
Silka laughs softly to himself, “You know it started long before any government told us it was happening? Reports talk of mass graves found using sonic radar, and some of the graves were months older than original estimates.”
“You telling me old fire engine Donny knew what was happening well before he let on?”
”Between you, me and these mountains, I’ve heard that old Donny hasn’t just got a vaccine, I’ve heard he’s got a mother fucking cure.”
“A cure?”
“Yup, nuclear fucking weapons!”
Nicely weaved. Pulls in and then a truly wicked ending! Enjoyed it immensely…

Thanks my friend, I had fun racking my brain for the right story. Think this one almost was it.
