A Loop Not Guessed – Twisted Microfiction 2020TOO

…“It’s not a time loop, it’s a death loop!” Klaus hisses through teeth clenched together tightly.

    “That’s the same thing, still!”

“NO IT’S NOT!” he says as he launches himself to his feet, and slams an open hand onto the table top while pointing at Shannon with a thrusting finger. “TIME, TIME IS ALWAYS ON THE MOVE, BUT DEATH, DEATH IS FINAL! WHAT I’M EXPERIENCING! WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME! THIS IS NOT TIME REPEATING, BUT MY DEATH HAPPENING OVER AND OVER AGAIN, TIME JUST HAPPENS TO BE HAPPENING AT THE SAME TIME!” he spits venously.

“But,” Shannon says with a shrug of his shoulders. “If you’re being honest, you are repeating time as well as your death, so time is inevitably the constant loop of everything.”

“SURE! SURE! IF IT WILL SHUT YOU THE FUCK UP! TIME IS THE LOOP!”

Shannon leans back in his seat and crosses his arms gruffly. “Then what’s the purpose of this conversation, if you don’t want me talking?”

“B-B-BECAUSE IT’S ALL PART OF THE LOOP! YOU, ME, TIME, DEATH! THEY ALL HAPPEN, ALWAYS, REGARDLESS OF THE POINT! REGARDLESS OF THE TIME! EACH THING HAPPENS, AND DEATH TAKES ME!”

“WHAT? WAIT! Are you saying your death happens, no matter what you do?”

“YES!” he says with wide eyes and a nodding of his head…

…“So here we are, sitting in this shit hole, and what the FUCK do you have to show for it?” Helen asks as she glances over the class almost ignoring each of them until her eyes fall upon Christian. “Mister Donnavilla, do you have anything to show for your wayward travels?” she asks sternly.

“No miss,” he mumbles as he buries his head in his hands like an ostrich would its in the sand.

“I’m sorry Mister Donnavilla, did you say something?”

    “NO MISS!” he cries out.

“No miss, because you didn’t have anything to say, or no miss, because you didn’t say anything?”

“No miss, I don’t have anything to say, because it’s not my fault!” he grimaces through lips of lead.

“I don’t think that’s good enough Mister Donnavilla, because you of all people deserve to give us all an explanation on why four of your classmates are no longer with us! For it was your intrepid map work that got us lost in the first place,” she seethes through tightly clenched teeth.

“It was ME who got us OUT!” he screams as he leaps to his feet and slaps his own chest powerfully. “I didn’t see YOU do anything to stop what was happening, and I didn’t see YOU arguing with anyone about where WE were going! YOU were supposed to take care of US, so if YOU want to point the finger, start with YOURSELF instead of ME!”

“The kids got a point,” a raspy voice hisses from the darkness that falls suddenly down around them….

A Bladder Of Contempt – Twisted Microfiction 2020TOO

…The bow moans and bends well beyond its means as Clint desperately clings on to the waning branches as a sea of sweat pour down his forehead and into his eyes, stinging like the nettles of the bushes below. With swallowed breath he grits his saliva drenched teeth together as he gathers all the strength he can muster while he pulls himself closer to the next set of branches that hang inches out of reach. With trembling fingers he stretches upwards, touching the soft leaves above as the bow finally breaks and Clint drops like a stone, hitting the ground beneath with a gut-wrenching thud. For more minutes than he would like, he lies there unmoving, his heart catapulting with each new beat while his mind spins back and forth through the absurd and focused until finally he pushes himself to his knees.

“That seemed more nastier than it should’ve,” a voice coos into his ear, causing him to tumble backwards and onto his behind….

For, these are the sins we pay to wash away,” he says with a flippant smile drawn uncharacteristically across his tired lips.

“Y-Y-You know h-her, d-don’t you?” Jason asks with trembling trepidation.

“Knew,” he says as he looks away, and down at the assorted collection of surgical implements that sit on a tray before him.

    “S-S-Sorry?” Jason stammers nervously.

“Why?” he asks as he rolls his head to its side, staring at Jason with wide curious eyes.

    “W-W-Why what?”

His eyes blink softly several times before a smile casts itself across his pinstriped lips and a gentle sigh escapes his lips. “Why are you sorry? Is it that you’re sorry you killed her, or are you sorry that you spoke about her in the here and now, and not then and there?”

“And what may ever that be?”

“A piece of shit that never should’ve escaped your fathers nut sack!” he spits back with a wry defiant grin.

“Have you ever been told how callous your words are?”

“I’m not naturally this way, it’s just you who brings out my mean side!”

“The bruises I saw on your woman’s inner thighs tell a different story!”

His face screws up tightly as the blood rushes from his cheeks. “She w-wouldn’t show you t-the time of day, let alone anything else!”

“She wriggled on my tongue, crying my name soon after in ecstasy, and then she paid the service back, a hungry whore your Matilda!” she shimmers with a playful wink and a flick of her tongue.

“I-I-I, I not pregnant,” she stammers with a nervous twitch running across her top lip.

“Why? Because you believe you’ve had it exorcised from within your womb?”

    “W-W-What? H-How c-could you say s-such a thing?”

“Carol told me everything Sonya, she told me how you came to her, she told me of the secrets your entrusted her to keep for you, and she told me of the journey you two ventured upon, to that cold place that steals the lies from the mouths of mothers. “Swinging party,” the woman says as she throws herself down in the seat next to him. “Can see you’re enjoying yourself.”

“Yeah, love a good party,” he says with an unconvincing smile slapped upon his face as he raises his glass and takes another sip.

“WOW! Did you get out of bed on the wrong side this morning?”

“Nah,” he says as he down the remainder of his drink down his throat. “Getting up and out regardless of side is always a good thing, it’s when you don’t wake up, that’s when you worry.”

“So,” she says as she punches him playfully in the arm. “Why are you such a sour puss, when everyone else is celebrating it up?”

“I-I-I, I’m not a sour puss, I’m just not in the mood to party, that’s all,” he says as he flashes another fake smile.

Where Your Imagination Takes You – Twisted 5 Minute Microfiction 2020TOO

…He sits and casts a wayward glance across the horizon with tightly pierced eyes, while a gentle breeze blows over the peaceful sea of tranquility the lies before them.

“There is a world beyond everything you see, further and further, never out of reach, and that is as far as it needs to be. For the length is a little, or a lot. You decided, in here,” he says as he touches his forehead. “And in here,” he says as he touches his chest.

“But how far do you really mean?” she asks with curious intent, while she gently tugs on his dull coloured hoodies pull cords.

“Do you see those hills, the ones past the golden horizon?”

“Which ones?” she asks as she draws her focus towards the drawn line almost out of her eyes reach.

He smiles and squeezes his purse lips together, before pointing over to the hills off in the distance. “Those one, just on the edge of tomorrow.”

She shields her eyes with her hands and squints tightly, following along his chiselled finger, and peering towards the horizons edge.

“Really? Is it that far?” she asks as she looks up at him with brows unevenly raised, and eyes that stare past his and into his very soul.

“No!” he scoffs with a proud chuckle as he grips his jaw and manhandles it roughly before thrusting a pointed finger again. “Past those hills are even more hills after that, and then a valley where a stream runs through. Follow that stream until it hits the edge of a small town, and then carry on past that some more until you come to a squiggly road that goes on for miles and miles through dense forests.”

“That far? But I can’t see that far!” she exclaims as she looks towards the horizon once more.

“Further!” he says with excitement, as he lifts her up on his shoulder and stands tall. “When you come out of the forest, you’ll see another town, much grander than the first, but it is still not far enough, so you’ll continue on, further and further away, through bigger towns, and then into cities, but you’re still not far enough away. Do you see it? Can you imagine it?”

“I-I-I, I can, I can see the hills and the stream, I can see the forest and the towns. I-I, I can see them all.”

“Good,” he says with a broad smile upon his face. “For that is how much I love you, as far as your imagination can take you, and,” he says as he gently lowers her back to the ground, and stares into her eyes, with tear filled ones of his own. “And know, whenever you need me, no matter how little it may be, you’ll always find me there waiting for you.”

“B-But I-I, I don’t want you to go! I-I, I’m not ready!” she cries as she squeezes him tightly, tears cascading down her cheeks.

“I wish I didn’t have to honey, but I’m already gone,” he says.

She leaps up with a startled panicked from her sleep.

She stands at the end of his bed and smiles softly, her eyes swollen from what he can only speculate is a large amount of crying.

“Hey you,” she says softly, griping herself tightly as fresh tears cascade down her cheeks.

“I-It’s not that b-bad is it?” he stammers.

“N-No,” she so sobs loudly. “I-I, I’m upset over something completely unrelated t-to you,” she says with an uneasy smile.

….“A plan is only as good as its desired ending, and if you don’t have a thoroughly thought out ending, you’re in danger of having a bad day all round. Now, I don’t say this just to be a buzz kill, I say it because not only are you without a focused outcome, but without a desired ending you’ll also not have a plan on how to handle problems and whatever other shit takes place along the way. Now I could be being over dramatic about all this, but, as the current situation shows us, without that ending, we are equipped to handle the middle. On the flip side of all this we’ve learnt something, and if you had of had an ending planned to the ninth degree, you would’ve had a ride smother than a baby’s butt cheek, and celebrations all round when you reach the end, as all endings should.” Keith says with a gentle nod of his head, and the puckering and drawing back of his lips, doing a cheap and nasty interpretation of Mick Jagger, sans the hip thrusts, and lanky legged chicken strut he his also famous for. “Sadly, we don’t have any of that, we’ve got this.” he says as he gestures to the sea bodies that lie at their feet….
