I entered a short story competition that required me to write a 100 word short story in 24 hours. The story needed to meet three things, a theme (Comedy), a situation (Climbing a Mountain) and a word that needed to be used (Radar). It took me a while to find the right idea, and get it to work in a way I was happy with, but that’s not saying I didn’t enjoy the process, and the stories that didn’t make the cut. So, for the sake of creativity, here is the rejected 100 word stories I wrote..
Batteries For The Memories
“A simple question, answered in the most god awful way I’ve ever had a question answered. It’s a simple question to answer. Yes or no will suffice, there doesn’t need to be any flair or pomp done!”
Jarvis kicks a rock away lazily as he stares at the ground, avoiding eye contact with his father.
“Jarvis, for the love of god! We’re halfway up this god damn mountain, and all I need to know is if you packed the spare batteries I asked you to pack, for the GPS radar! It can’t be any other answer besides yes, or no!”
