We Trust In Technology – 100 Word Microfiction Short Story

I entered a short story competition that required me to write a 100 word short story in 24 hours. The story needed to meet three things, a theme (Comedy), a situation (Climbing a Mountain) and a word that needed to be used (Radar). It took me a while to find the right idea, and get it to work in a way I was happy with, but that’s not saying I didn’t enjoy the process,  and the stories that didn’t make the cut. So, for the sake of creativity, here is the rejected 100 word stories I wrote..

We Trust In Technology

He weaves his way through the thicket like a well-oiled machine, expertly steering the bike up the mountain side with a precision that would make a cardiovascular surgeon jealous. His eyes grow wide and he slams the breaks on the bike, almost tumbling over the handlebars, and the forty-foot drop that he narrowly avoids careering over.
His heart beats powerfully in his chest as he looks down at his bikes GPS radar with a focused concentration, before slapping it on the side several times. The screen flickers, then resets its location and his eyes grow wider than before. “F-F-FFUCK ME!”
