Be The Man – 100 Word Microfiction Short Story

I entered a short story competition that required me to write a 100 word short story in 24 hours. The story needed to meet three things, a genre (Sci-Fi), an event (Seeing a rainbow) and to use a certain word (Micro). It took me a while to find the right idea and to get it to work in a way I was happy with. But like the last time I entered something similar, I enjoyed the desire to find the story that sparked the right way for me. So, for the sake of creativity, here is 1 of the 24 rejected stories in a 100 word format..

Be The Man

As the sun sets behind the mountain top that will be Jarrod’s final resting place, he allows the newly formed rainbow that stands before him to be his silent witness.
“Foolish was my ways, had I seen the end before it was what it has become, I would’ve broken my path and allowed trust to form between me and those that have betrayed me.” he says as he drops to his knees, splashing in the puddle of red that continues to grow beneath him.
“Death is but a moment away, lost in a microsecond of time,” a shrouded figure says.
