The Vail Is Not The Veil

The door explodes open and David storms in like a wild animal, while Carl calmly sits at his desk and smiles softly.

“Please David, there is no need to be violen…”

“HOW FUCKING LONG!” he screams with an immeasurable rage, slamming a fist into the table.

“Please David, I…”

“STOP LYING TO ME, AND JUST TELL ME HOW FUCKING LONG I’VE BEEN IN THIS PLACE!”

They stare at each other for several moments before Carl lets out an exhausted sigh and sits back in his seat. “You’ve been here seventeen years,” he says softly.

David’s eyes widen and he stares with an almost vacant gaze at Carl for several moments as his lips tremble. “S-S-Seventeen f-fucking YEARS!” he stammers, slowly elevating into a roar.

Carl put his hands up into the air and frowns. “Please David, anger will get us nowhere, what we need to do now is help disconnect you from this reality you’ve cre…”

“ME!” David roars ferociously. “I NEVER CREATED ANYTHING, YOU! YOU CREATED THIS, THIS PLACE!” he screams waving his arms around in dramatic fashion. “ALL I EVER DID WAS BE DECEIVED BY THOSE I THOUGHT I COULD TRUST!”

“Please David, you can trust me, for I a….”

“STOP LYING TO ME!” he bellows. “STOP LYING AND JUST TELL ME THE TRUTH…” his words find themselves stuck in his throat as the world around him dissolves away.
