Fates Hand Guides All Who Warrants It – 100 Word Microfiction Short Story

I entered a short story competition that required me to write a 1000 word short story in 48 hours. The story needed to meet three things, a genre (A Ghost Story), a location (An Igloo) and an object (A Coffee Mug). It took me a while to find the right idea and to get it to work in a way I was happy with. But like the last time I entered something similar, I enjoyed the desire to find the story that sparked the right way for me. So, for the sake of creativity, here is 1 of the 24 rejected stories in a 100 word format..


Fates Hand Guides All Who Warrants It


Virgil thrusts himself forward, driving his broken bloody fist into the icy wall, as he desperately tries in vain to force his way through the igloo’s shell. He falls forward, and rests his head against the frozen wall, and sucks in breath after frantic breath as he nears exhaustion.

“You could avoid so much of this insanity, if you just accept the fate of life’s hand, and allow me the journey we spoke of.”

Virgil snarls, and twists the corner of his lips. “What we spoke of, was not what you ended up with. STOP LYING TO ME!” he screams.
