Haggard Withered Gestation – Unhinged Poem

I saw the darkness grow,

as it overtook all that was,

eyes glazed over with emptiness,

a soul on the edge of torment,

we promised things without question,

through dying breath,

we wished,

we hoped,

but we never dared to know,

when the other doorway opened,

we found ourselves free from pain,

free from the pittance we had fought through to survive,

a reprieve,

a gift,

a promise,

an illusion,

the clutching of straws,

by a mind not willing to let go…
